You don't, you just learn to live with it. I have a fear of rats and mice. I have four cats, one lives inside and three outside. You might want to carry a can of bug spray with you all the time.

I've had arachnophobia for a very very long time. I remember a time when I was a kid when I had no problem with spiders and then suddenly I was terrified of them, something must have happened in between to trigger my phobia but I have no idea what it could be. Psychologists can help you get over your fear by incrementally exposing you to the object of your fear. The treatments starts by only talking about spiders, imagining them, describing them and you end up with holding one in your hand. Of course this happens over the course of several months or years, depending on the patient. Best of luck to you!

Most fears are healthy and help protect you from danger.. they only become unhealthy when they prohibit you from things that do not pose a danger. So the best thing to do is to research information on spiders so you don't end up placing yourself next to a dangerous spider while working on your fears. The next thing is to slowly and comfortably expose yourself to spiders in a manner that allows you to feel safe around them. The more time and closer your interaction with the spider is the easier it should become.

Systematic desensitization.
Slowly and gradually expose yourself to the stimulus. Worked on me. I'm still afraid of little house spiders...but now, I am in love big fuzzy tarantulas. hehehe

you'll need to go the a spider "petting" zoo, no really, check with your local zoo to see if they have spider seminars and if you can learn about them and touch them, thats the best way to handle fear, head first!

buy a tarantula and stare at it for a few months in a sealed cage only throwing food in once in a while. Your fear will go away and be replaced by curiosity.

ARACHNOPHOBIA--THE FEAR OF SPIDERS IS COMMON. TO OVERCOME THIS IT'S BEST TO LEARN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN ABOUT THEM. ULTIMATELY -- WHEN YOU ARE COMFORTABLE -- HANDLING A LARGE TARANTULA AT A PET STORE CAN BECME SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARDTO. TARANTULAS ARE QUITE SAFE TO HANDLE SO GO AND HAVE FUN!!!
