I'm 19 and I have a small infant baby that I am breastfeeding and my sister has a small baby as well that I am taking care of for a few days while her and her husband are out of town. Tommorow me and mom are going to go to the mall and shop for baby clothes and some other things. Well, I know I will need to feed the babies then so I figured I could breastfeed them both at the same time. I know this will require a little more modesty but I think I can cover myself pretty well. My mom thinks this is a bad idea though. What should I do?

If the babies don't get hungry at the same time, feed them at different times so you will be covered up better. But if by chance they both get hungry at the same time, go ahead and feed them. I don't see anything wrong with it. If babies get hungry they need to be fed. Most people don't get offended by a breast feeding Mother. If someone does get offended, piss on them. They don't have to look. But be prepared for alot of people to stare at you since you will be in such a public place. I say go for it if the babies get hungry at the same time. Just cover yourself up as much as possible. Don't worry about what anyone thinks. This is children we are talking about.

You should do what you feel comfortable with. You are allowed to care for children in public ( What do they think people with twins do?!? ) and I think nursing your sister's baby is fine! You should contact your local La Leche league if you need support from other women who have breastfed ( I have fed two in public at once and been discreet about it. It really would help if your mom is supportive and could sit by you and help adjust a blanket or baby if needed.)
I have fed a friend's baby while she was in the hospital with another child who had cancer. I have a friend who pumped for a baby whose mother died. Obviously this should be discussed and okayed by all parties involved, but people have had other moms breastfeed forever (wet nurses, mammys, etc.).
You are an amazing young woman for doing what is best for these children! Hang in there, and find the support of some other new moms, you sound like the kind of woman who will have much wisdom to offer such a group !
If you were my daughter, I'd be proud of you.

Ummm.....why are you breastfeeding your sister's baby? Your sister should have pumped some of her own milk for you to give the baby while she is gone. Who cares about you breastfeeding two babies at once. The part that is a "bad idea" is that one of them is not your baby. What should you do? Let your mom give your niece a bottle while you breastfeed your own child!

Do what you have to do discreetly as possible and make no apologies to anyone. Unless all these experts can help you breastfeed they should keep quiet. Bring enough diapers, changes of clothes, wipes, baby powder, Desenex, etc., for both and the duration of the trip.

You are obviously a good mother and a good friend. If mom is going to ride you for YOUR choices, you may want to limit time with her on those occasions when you think she is going to try and control you.

I answered your question about this yesterday and I STILL say find a lactation consultant. Seriously. SO helpful. Call first thing Monday and you can get this fixed. You need to stop giving her a bottle and concentrate on getting her latched on correctly. Every time she sucks on a bottle she forgets how to latch on to Mommy. It's really hard, I went through the same thing so I understand. Really, I promise it will get better. Don't give up! Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with breastfeeding 2 babies at one time but, please, do it in private. If I really wanted to see someone's boobs I would get a porno or buy some guy's magazine. HAVE RESPECT FOR OTHERS!!!
Medically speaking, it is not a good idea to nurse another's baby. Your DNA is in that milk, along with all that goes into your system. It is good for YOUR baby but, not for other's. Baby needs her mother's milk or, formula. Your sister should've given you either extra money, for formula, or, pumped as much, of her own milk, as the baby would need.

I doubt that you need to feed both at once. Can your sister's baby take a bottle of pumped milk? I think that would work too. Feeding two at once in public will be a little awkward.

Breastfeeding your OWN child is one thing, but trying to breastfeed someone else's is another!!!! DO NOT breastfeed your sister's baby, breastfeed your own!!! It's fine to do in public(if you keep yourself covered). Your sister should have her breast milk in a bottle for HER baby. But you should NEVER breastfeed someone else's child.

If you can pull this off you are a Wonder Mom! Two at once, my goodness that is a fantastic feat. Have your Mom help conceal you for Modesty sake. And for the sake of all of us guys please find someplace inconspicuous to perform this amazing event. It is so embarrassing to have my eyes cross a room and see a mother breast feeding. Concealed or not they always look at me at that same moment my eyes pass by and I am embarrassed, especially if their breast is exposed. (and I've been married 30 years-3 kids)

Good luck

Its ok if discrete. What most do is throw a towel or a afghan over their top and breast feed underneath it, go to the restroom, a ladies dressing room. However I thought you didn't have children based on your other questions?
