My son did the same thing a couple of times when he was 5. Once under the couch cusions. (gross!) Once in a plant (pretending he was camping maybe?) and then I once caught him peeing on the neighbors mailbox while walking home from the bus stop. (I can see him get off the bus and walk all the way home from the bus stop.) He said that last time that he really couldn't wait, but we still had a talk about it. Every time we talked about how we only use the toilet to pee in, and I made him clean up his messes. I think he was just testing, exploring. He got in trouble, though, and hasn't done it since. I just recently caught my 3 year old peeing in the laundry hamper. She too got in trouble and had to clean up her mess. She hasn't done it since either. I'm pretty sure they are just experimenting with things, and they just need to be reminded what's right and wrong. Kids will do things that we just assume they know are wrong, but if they haven't been taught that specifically, then they really might just be innocent and not realized they've done anything wrong.
Good luck!

Does he do it at night, or during the day? The reason i ask this is because my son used to pee all over the house when he got up in the middle of the night. I caught him in the kitchen, in the living room and even one time he was in the bedroom closet. It got to the point where every time i heard him get up, i would go check on him and see where he was peeing this time. I was aggravated and finally took him to the doctor. He was sleepwalking and didn't know where he was when he woke up to go pee. He grew out of it after about a year.
Or if that's not the case for you, maybe he's just trying to get attention. Maybe you should sit him down and talk to him. More than likely he will grow out of it. Good luck!!

Yes, he has and he was like 6, almost 7. I caught him peeing on the floor in his room one time while he was supposed to be getting ready for school. I also think he peed in his closet, but I never caught him, just the signs of it. Little devil!!! LOL
I don't think it is something to "worry" about, they are little boys. I just gave mine a stern talking to and threatened to tell his dad, and he didn't do it anymore (that I know of!!!)

The answers above have a lot of good possibilities. I would add "sexual awareness". Five year old boys may be sexually exploring. Nothing scientific, but as a nurse I always had a hunch that this kind of random, episodic backsliding on toilet training that often occurs at five is related to sexual awareness issues. You might have that talk with him now. Five is about the right age.

I feel for you. My son is eight and he just keep doing it. Even when he was 5. On the walls, his floor, on the front porch. My suggestion is after he cleans it up give him a time out then discuss with him where the appropriate place to potty is. It might take time but eventually it will kick in

My 6 year old Peed in the trash can in the bathroom. I asked hi why he did it and he said, "I'm just a boy." I'm not really sure what he meant, but it made sense. I made him clean out the trash can and promise to let me know if he had anymore "boy" urges.

hehehe! I have to laugh because I thought my son was Deranged when he peed in the playhouse at his daycare! I guess not... Maybe it's a little guy thing my girl never did it so I was pretty shocked when my son's teacher at daycare told me that he peed in the play house! Lucky for me by the time he got home he had all ready learned his lesson because he was teased by his class mates. Yes I felt bad but in a way I was happy that he learned his lesson without me having to punish him. But either way I wouldn't be too concerned.

My daughter did the same thing. I started smelling this strange smell here by my computer and found out she was peeing in the trashcan. I told her to stop and she did. I think it was just that that was where she was at the time and so she just went there as opposed to actually walking to the bathroom.
Just keep pointing him in the right direction (the potty) and I think he will finally figure it all out.

If he seems to be doing it just to do it then you could buy a small package of diapers and tell him the bathroom is the only place to relieve him self otherwise you will have to make him wear the diapers until he can control himself.
