Contracting Hep C through sex is not likely at all. There must be blood contact to get Hep C. Hepatitis C is not passed through any other bodily fluids including semen, saliva, tears, mucous, vaginal secretions, etc. It can only be transferred through blood to blood contact, meaning that the infected blood must find a way into your bloodstream. My mom contracted Hep C through a blood transfusion in the 1960's and has been married to my dad for 35 years...He has never contracted it. I got Hep C from my mom when I was born and have been with my husband for 7 years now...He has never contracted it either.

Yes it is contagious. But only through blood-you have only a 3% chance of getting from sex or sexual activity, and there has to be blood or open wounds. You can not get it from normal every day life!!

ghostly person has it correct. HCV corpuscles (found in semen, vaginal fluid, teardrops and congestion fluids) are NOT transferrable. corpuscles are basically dead pieces of the virus.
hcv is not a "true std" because blood transmission has to occur, anotherwards blood has to be found in the semen or vaginal fluid or saliva and the other person has to have an open wound. hcv is very very hard to catch sexually.
you are more apt to catching hcv through household exposure, ie, sharing a razor (with blood on it) and cutting yourself, or sharing anything that might have blood on it. even dried infected blood will reconstitute where hcv is concerned.

Hepatitis C is not contagious. It is similar to HIV. It is spread through blood, semen, and saliva. Sharing needles, sex during menstration, and sharing a toothbrush(if someone has an open sore in their mouth) would all be contributors.

it is only contagious through bodily fluids; usually by sharing needles, having a blood transfusion from someone with hepC or having unprotected sex. and it IS POSSIBLE to get it from sex: i'm looking at my medical microbiology book right now and it absolutely is.
to ghostly and giggling:
Main Entry: con·ta·gious
Function: adjective
1 : communicable by contact
= hep C is contagious by definition. It is communicated through contact of bodily fluids.

ghostly goblin is 100% correct...
if you do NOT know an answer correctly, then DO NOT POST IT.
HCV is transmitted by BLOOD ONLY!
HCV is not a TRUE STD. Blood has to be in the semen or vagina and transmission can ONLY occur if the other person has an open wound.....
If your not sure, get the CORRECT answer from a specialist!! (gastro, liver doctor, hemo doc)
