I do not want to pay to join a geneaolgy service just to know a date of death.

Try doing a Google Search (go to Google.com) starting with the last name of your relative. If you get a lot of hits, narrow it down with their first name, too.

I don't know how common your name is, but take a look at the hits & if there are too many, narrow it down more (Year of Death, Where they lived, etc.)

Bureau of Vital Statistics, but you'd have to pay $5-10 to get the info. Or see if your local library has membership in a genealogy service that you can go through for free. Mine does.

This information is free online. Go tosearch and type in vital statistics or social security deaths, and what state youre in for example.... ky social security deaths.. it will take you to the site. Its very simple actually. Hope this helped ya!
