Why is it that in Muslim countries like Malaysia, Muslims are not allowed to convert out of Islam while there are numerous associations/organisations/government bodies to encourage and aid the conversion of non-Muslims to Islam?

What is this? Is this what Islam is about? Sure, if you say that the majority of Muslims are not educated and do not know the Quran well (and really, even that is NOT our fault, though they like to blame the West for their poverty and low literacy rates), then how about governments of Muslim nations? Surely THEY know the Quran well enough to behave in such a ZENOPHOBIC (and I'm using their favourite word) way.

Just search Lina Joy in Google News. There're many many more, but Joy had become somewhat of a symbol to the Malaysia system.

In Malaysia, issues concerning Islam are transfered to the Shari'ah courts which consider abandoning Islam to be apostasy, an offense punishable by fines, detention, and imprisonment in Malaysia. Although Malaysia's constitution grants every person the right to profess and practice his or her religion, civil courts ruled July 5 that an individual cannot leave Islam "at will.". How ironic.

OMG look at the answer below mine. Christians are free to follow any faith they want. Christianity has no such thing like "Sharia". No Christian ever gets executed for converting to another religion.

Show me one documented case of a Christian being executed for converting to another religion and I'll show you how to build a fusion reactor out of a grapefruit and some toothpaste

Islamic regulation isn't limited to international places. it somewhat is acceptable to each Muslim everywhere. it somewhat is using the fact Islam is a self-respecting faith. Lina exhilaration make a concious person selection as an person to desert Islam, understanding that the regulation of the land does no longer enable it. You wreck the rule of thumb of the land, you pay.
