Ok... I have been dating this guy for 3 years now. He is putting college on hold until I graduate in December (He started a year ago when I had to quit due to medical problems and stopped when I could go back because I only had a semester left and we cannot afford both of us going to college). Question is... Since I have known him (5 years now) I know he can hold a job for maybe 6-9 months and then he somehow "loses" it or gets "sick" and doesn't go to the doctor. 3 years of this now and I needed to rely on him to keep a job while I student taught and he lost his job a week before I started teaching in August and is just getting a job now.
Do I sit around and wait for him to finish his degree and then see how serious he is about keeping a steady job or do I take his previous work history into account and figure he'll never change?

If you are going to respond, please give your reasoning why instead of just saying "dump him."

well i know a lot of people same as you b/f, i mean not serious about the jobs and kee it changing. believe me i and all my friends tried a lot but none of them changed after promising. now they all are in their late 30's or earlu 40's and had a serious problem for finance as now no one like to hire them as they dont have a good record.

so what i sugest you is you can go through his previous record and compare the timehe worked and the reason he left. then you can decide on what you have to do else you will be in big problem later or you have to work and support your family.

Is his degree going to lead to better job opportunities and how long will it take to finish the degree? I understand how it is to get burned-out on a boring or unsatisfying job. I used to hold a job for maybe 6 months to a year tops, until I found my 'niche' and now I'm in my current job for 5 years. I also understand how frustrating it is to count on someone who doesn't follow through on their word. :( Only you can decide how patient you are willing to be.
