I've tried those petmate water filter fountain, but it didn't work. I hate that darn thing. My little gray cat runs into the tub whenever I have to use the toilet. It's really annoying because she just stares at me and meows as if yelling for me to turn on the water. Ugh. Any suggestions? I give her fresh water every day in her bowl.

I read something about how faucet water has more oxygen in it and tastes fresher than a bowl that just sits out. So I guess that's why they like it. I drank water that was sitting around before and it tastes flat. Perhaps it's a survival instinct that oxygenated water is better? I dunno.

My cats do this too! I wish I knew how to stop it. I mean, how much different can the water taste coming out of the faucet? It'll be interesting to see what answers you get to this. Maybe we'll both be able to break these crazy cats of ours of this habit!

Haha, that's so cute! It sure would get annoying after a while, though.
Perhaps she thinks that the water in her bowl isn't the same as the water from the faucet, so maybe you could deliberately show her that it's the same. So, like, put the bowl unter the faucet, turn the water on, and make sure she's paying attention =D

the 'drinkwell' fountain is the 1 to get, it has a water falling making a noise calling for the cat to drink from it, the other ones don't have that. we had a different one before the drinkwell came out, we stoped using it cause it was leaking water everywhere, petmate freshflow. but while we were using it my cat wasn't crying for me to turn on the bathtub faucet. Now at night I'll wash out his water bowl cause it get slimey for some reason and put cold bottled water in it and he'll drink.

Obviously, your cat is having difficulty training you.
Here's what you need to do, in simple human terms: Every time you go into the the bathroom, for whatever reason, turn on the tub (or sink, according to your cat master's/mistress's preference) faucet and allow a small stream of water to flow, then proceed to tend to your human needs.
I have also found it helpful to invest in a double lavatory, so my feline friend can have her sink while I have access to the other for human functions, such as hand-washing and tooth-brushing.

I have two cats but the 17 year old is always looking for fresh 'cold' water, if anyone in my house is drinking a bottle of water...we must share with the cat or he won't leave you alone. We have a water filtration jug in the fridge and it is only for the cats...the humans in the house only drink bottled water. Anyway, try changing the water often and see if your cat likes the cold water too. Good luck!!

I'm sorry to say that I have the same problem and no solution....I have bought all types of fountains, but nothing will replace the sink for my dear ginnie....I have three other cats who could care less but she will only drink from the faucett, sleeps in the bathroom sink, and tries to snuggle when I am in the tub...
I suppose that it is one of the bad that we must accept with the good since they are all such diverse little things.....
Could be worse, she could like garbage or dirty socks and underwear...

Mine like it to. You stop it by turning the water off tight. I'll leave my run for a minute or so ig they're right there to drink and then shut it off. My water is metered so I have to pay for rvery gallon that goes down the drain.

i dunno one of my cats will sit there until you turn the water on and then they drink from the faucet. i think all cats drink out of the toilet tho. But one of my neighbors has that water fountain thing, but it doesnt make a lot of noise or mess like the other ones, and he says his cats like it.
