I usually wait for like six weeks - thats when i have a lot of new growths plus putting chemicals in your hair too quickly can cause it to damage fo 4-6 weeks is fine...

You either did not follow the instructions correctly or used the wrong strenght perm.
The straightening process is when your applying the relaxer to your hair and use the back of a plastic comb or your hand and smooth it, do this a few times, then when you done all the parts (under and over each parts) then apply the rest of the relaxer to the entire head and smooth. You can't not re-apply a whole head pern until five to six month, then you will have overprocessed your hair. After six weeks you can do the new growth (the roots and hair line).

6-8 wks is the normal time. It also depends on your hair growth. I personally relax my hair every 12 - 16 wks, My hair grows fast but hte new growth isn't "nappy" just wavy so it allows me to have fuller styles. Also I relax mostly to "thin" out my hair when it just gets too "lioness". I use a maxiglide by maximus inbetween to keep my hair straight and manageable. This works for me.

I personally relax my hair every 6 weeks. Advice from my hairdresser. Also, I trim my hair a week after relaxing.

Here are a few sites that recommend how long you should wait to relax your hair again.
