It's supposed to signal it's time to rest to your tribe, gang, family,.. whatever.

"Social" animals have this. When a "Social" animal yawns, it makes the others of it's kind Yawn in responce,... then the others that see those Yawn do so as well. It spreads through the troop, pack, group, gang, tribe, family,... etc.

It would make the group call everyone together and everyone would wander over to a place to rest and wind down,.. then everyone would nap together or sleep in the same area together.

But in modern times with humans all this is fought,.. instinct ignored. Instead things have become focused to surround a scedual we didn't use to follow before clocks became the center to our universe.

There are a lot of theories. Lots of people have mentioned "lack of oxygen", which makes the most sense. It has been suggested that way back in the stone age, yawning was a contagious thing in order to help the entire tribe get to sleep... but that sounds like myth to me.

No one knows for sure. But there are many theories (ideas) about why people yawn. One is that when we are bored or tired, we just don't breathe as deeply ...

"you not gonna believe this i yawned just by reading your question" its 3 am here in London

People yawn when they are tired or bored. It usually happens in the morning when you first get up or at night when it's time to go to bed.

Because you're tired and you're not getting air as fast as you usually do so when you yawn you get a lot of air.
