I'm such a "today" person I have trouble saying which is my favourite story. I will give a different answer tomorrow or the day after. However there are 3 stories that I love.
1. David and Goliath
2. The conversion of Zaccheus (Luke 19)
3. Peter's denial of Christ - it shows there is hope for me too.
I think my favourite is the Zaccheus tale. I love happy endings.

The physician Luke describes this guy as being “full of leprosy.” In its advanced stages, this dreadful disease slowly disfigures various parts of the body. So this leper is in a pitiful condition.
When Jesus arrives in the city, the leper approaches him. According to God’s law, a leper is to call out in warning, “Unclean, unclean!” to protect others from coming too close and risking infection. The leper now falls upon his face and begs Jesus: “Lord, if you just want to, you can make me clean.”
What faith the man has in Jesus! Yet, how pitiful his disease must make him appear! What will Jesus do? What would you do? Moved with compassion, Jesus stretches out his hand and touches the man, saying: “I want to. Be made clean.” And immediately the leprosy vanishes from him.
Would you like someone so compassionate as this for your king? The way Jesus treats this leper provides confidence that during his Kingdom rule the Bible prophecy will be fulfilled: “He will feel sorry for the lowly one and the poor one.” Yes, Jesus will then fulfill his heart’s desire to help all afflicted ones.

It's hard to say just one favorite story so I'll give you two! "Black Bartlemy's Treasure" By Jeffrey Farnol,. It's a mixture of pirates and treasure, of course, deceit, friendship and love.It is also written in "Old English" dialect. "Two men had I seen die beside me, yet Death, nay, it seemed rather that despite the pain of stripes, despite the trevail of hardship my strength waxed mightier." Adventurous!! The Bible:The story of Job. I believe that God reveals how we will be tormented of Satan ("Flaming Arrows, Eph.6-16 NIV"), but we CAN withstand even in the face of our detractors giving what they feel is helpful advice or accusatory statements because we can trust in God who is a rewarder of Faith ....not to mention he tells Job to pray for those same mis-informed brutha's. I was especially moved by the words of God when he asks the question, who tells the ocean just how far to come ashore? "This is how far you may come and no farther, here is where your proud waves halt." Or, " What is the way of the abode of light? And where does the darkness reside? Can you take them to their places?". And "Who endowed the heart with wisdom or gave understanding to the mind?" It's a good read, but so is the ENTIRE Bible. What do you think? All books are great for good stories, enlightenment. it's what you choose to read that gives meaning, or brings joy to your life.

Favourite story is the Tain bo Culinge ... the Cattle Raid of Cooley. It's an Irish tale that dates from the pre-Christian time, about the same time that the Illiad and Odyssey were written.
