So, I have this really good guy friend named Richard. Now personally, I am disgusted by eating disorders. But, he says that guys like women with eating disorders because it shows that they have discipline and self-control. He also says its not an eating disorder if you look good and are thin.

Now do all guys feel this way? This is so confusing.

I mean, yeah, I know guys have them too, but I am just wondering about guys opinions on a girl with an ED.

I might also add, that at the time we were discussing it he was looking at a pro ana/mia forum. and he mentioned how hot the girls were because they were really thin.

Your body, by all nature, needs food to obtain sufficient minerals and vitamins to keep it strong and healthy. Lots of bad things succeed eating disorders besides losing weight a slower and safer way.

Run away from this guy. Most men don't like stick thin women or ones that are vomiting to maintain their figure. THis is a sign of a sick little boy. Eating disorders are very serious and difficult to overcome. Nobody should be encouraged to go down that path, it's unhealthy and possibly deadly. It's a sad reality that people are killing themselves in the name of pursuing the "model" figure that most people can never achieve. Don't buy into it. Eating disorders aren't disgusting, they're a medical/psychological condition that requires serious intervention. Just don't go there.

Eating disorders are not gross or stupid, the effects yes maybe unattractive but eating disorders are a mental disorder. Many people don't realize that people who have eating disorders suffer from, paranoia, depression, anxiety disorders and (OCD) Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It is really sad that people make fun of people who are suffering because it is like teasing a cancer patient because they look sickly. Its a disorder people not a choice. Make fun of the people who pretend to be anorexic just to be cool, they are the stupid ones. Or the ones who are into pro-ana because they want to devolop eating disorders. Everyone who really has had one hates it and wishes that they were treated for it.

What kind of disorder? There are plenty of eating disorders. Usually if a girl told me she did I would talk to her about it and try to get her on the path to being healthy, but if she didn't mention it I probably wouldn't want to embarrass her by asking her about it.

Geniune people with eating disorders as in anorexia are very rare. Most eating disorders are the other way - that is over eating. It is very common to be slim and not have a mental condition.

First, I am a guy. The biology of beauty is all about health. Obesity isn't healthy and neither is scrawniness. Eating habits that result in either are bad--a "disorder" if you wish. A healthy woman is almost always attractive, and I suppose the same is true for men.

I don't want to sound offensive, but your friend Richard has absolutely no clue what he is even talking about. Eating Disorders are a mental illness that can turn life threatening, anyone who finds that in anyway acceptable or appealing needs mental help themselves! Sorry to sound harsh. Take care.

No, that just isn't so. Eveyone has different outlooks on people looks. Not every guy likes skinny girls or girls with eating disorders, plus it is vey dangerous for your health. Ask other guys besides Richard, and I bet you will get different answers. Good luck

That friend isn't exactly thinking for the best of you. Eating disorders are not only unhealthy, but gross. No guy in his right mind wants a girl that when she turns sideways, she disappears.
That's just unattractive. Trust me. No guy (with the exception of your friend) wants someone who has rotted teeth (bulimia reference) and bones that pop out of the skin. It is just plain gross and disgusting. I personally don't understand how people can find that beautiful.
