I would suggest talked to your doctor or reading up on birth control at http://plannedparenthood.org Birth control is a personal choice based on your needs.
Personally, I can tell you I was on depo for 3 years and I gained almost 100 pounds. It was great not having a period, but then again I was fat. New studies are out now saying that if you are on it for longer than 2 years, your chances of getting pregnant greatly decrease.
The pills is a great choice if you are someone that can remember to take it every day at the same time. I tried the pill on several occasions. However, I am one that doesn't remember to take pills so I would spot a lot and my periods were never on schedule. Also now they have pills that allow you to only have 4 periods a year.
I never tried the patch, but I heard from a friend that is burned her skin and left sticky marks where the patch was that wouldn't come off for weeks after the patch was removed.
After my first pregnany, I was considering the Nuva Ring. You put it in and forget for 3 weeks, then take it out for your period. In my birth classes though, the midwife said that if you use the ring AND take birth control pills, you can leave the ring in for the whole month. That combined with the pills, you won't have a period.
There is also the IUD. Your doctor inserts it like a tampon, (its very small) and stays in your uterus for 7 years. If at any time you want to get pregnant or you become pregnant, there are little tiny strings on it and you can just pull the IUD out.
I ended up not chosing anything and got pregnant again. After this baby I'm going with the IUD.

If you might possibly want to have children in the future, then in my opinion the pill is the best form of birth control; it's very reliable when taken properly, and the type that allows you to have only four menstrual periods a year also makes life a lot simpler! If you know that you don't want more children, then tubal ligation is an excellent and very reliable form of birth control. While some may argue that the man should be responsible for having a vasectomy, as it is not as invasive, I personally preferred to control my own fertility, and those were the two options I used.

No form of birth control is 100% effective, so if you don't use a condom, there is still a small chance that you'll become pregnant. On the other hand, the pill makes it much more likely that you won't get pregnant. The longer you're on the pill, the more your chances of pregnancy are reduced. The safest thing to do is to use a condom anyway, but a lot of people don't if they're having sex with a partner they trust. You need to be aware that the pill doesn't do anything against STD's though... =) And there's no reason to be embarrassed about birth control or sex questions - everyone has to learn somehow :)

Well, I guess abstinence is the best form LOL, but that's probably not what you're looking for.
I would say Condoms are the best form of birth control BECAUSE they help stop diseases too.
If I were you though I'd get on the pill AND make the guys use condoms!
I've had condoms break before and my wife got sick from that shot that's supposed to last a while.

The only real suggestion I have at this point based on my own life experience is avoid the depo-provera shot at all costs. I had the shot twice in my life, once before having a child and once after. Both times I felt pregnant all the time, gained significant weight and had terrible stomach aches. I am sure this method works for some, or else it wouldn't be on the market, but for me it was a disaster.

I think a condom maybe the most effective. I cant stand using condoms though and its too hard for me to pull out. So I think that the pill is the way to go. I have also herd bad things about the depo shot. Definitely the birth control pill is the way to go.

I have only ever been on the pill, and was on it for about 8 years i think. It worked well for me, I never got pregnant and never had a scare, but I also never forgot to take my pill. I did have a few mild side effects like a lack of sex drive, and since I have been off the pill, I have discovered that my Periods were longer on the pill than off. I am very curious about the nuva ring, but a bit cautious about it to. I was considering an IUD as well,my cousin loved hers but eventually had to have it removed because of complications. The Pill has been around for forever and is probably been tested the most for long term effects. Good Luck

I got the depo shot and I had my period for 2 months after I had it and it was heavy. I would go two days without out it and then have it another week and a lot of my friends experienced this problem I wouldnt recommend the depo shot.
