You may be hooked emotionally and psychologically. You may have a physical dependence, too. If you have a drug addiction — whether to a legal or illegal drug — you have intense cravings for it. You want to use the drug again and again. When you stop taking it, you may have unpleasant physical reactions.

-Feeling that you need the drug regularly and, in some cases, many times a day
-Making certain that you maintain a supply of the drug
-Failing repeatedly in your attempts to stop using the drug
-Doing things to obtain the drug that you normally wouldn't do, such as stealing
-Feeling that you need the drug to deal with your problems
-Driving or doing other activities that place you and others at risk of physical harm when you're under the influence of the drug

It really depends on what it is you are addicted to.
They all have certain things in common. Like craving the drug, everyday and all the time and you feel like you can't do anything until you get high. You could have physical withdrawal symptoms. With alcohol, you can have DT's which is seeing things that aren't there and rapid heartbeat, agitation and become argumentative and willing to fight anyone who stops you from getting it. Every one is different. With heroine your body goes into withdrawal by rapid heartbeat, severe pain, like you are going to die, sweats and chills. It's all bad. Depending on the amount of drug you are using and how often will also have an effect on how your withdrawal symptoms are. So, if someone is severely addicted they may need professional help, requiring a rehab hospital where they can monitor the person and give them medication to help with the symptoms, hopefully with some counseling too. It's a hard thing to face and overcome but it gives you your life back.

Common symptoms of addiction are: feeling dizzy, tired, don't want to go anywhere, and always having a dependency on the substance you are taking.

well ususally a person uses excuses to themselves and/or to others on why your doing it if its drugs for instance i know someone who is addicted to pain pillsand their excuse is well they just help me stay awake plus my teeth hurt too ..when someone is addited you know it because youll always be haveing excuses and finding reasons in your head why your not and compareing yourselves to others who you think are well worse off then you an addition is an addition and people have them in many different ways you begin to also start failing at what you was good at you become more aggravated when you dont have or do what ever it is your on/doing you also get more secretive you may yell at people you love alot because you are aggravated and then when your doing what ever it is you may seem happy for the moment addiction is a terrible thing to have addictions change people
