I don't have a religion, but I respect all religions. I don't view one religion as better than another. Christianity is okay. Christians can believe whatever they want to. It's just that Christianity enforces its beliefs to the point where it becomes an issue morality-wise. Christianity disapproves strongly on homosexual (gay) marriage, or even gay couples. I disagree. If a gay person wants to hook up with another gay person, let them. They have every right to marriage that heterosexuals ("straight" people) do. When people are denied the rights other people are offered, that's when people get pissed off. I have not been that upset with Christianity, because as I said earlier, religion isn't my main priority. Even though I'm not Christian, I'll end my statement with a religious one. God bless you Derek!

I don't care for the Christian religion, but most of the Christian people I mean are my friends. My best friend is a Christian, and she's okay most of the time. Sometimes, I get irritated because she starts preaching Christian moral values to me, so that gets on my nerves. You seem like a nice person. Someone who strives for moral excellence. You're one of the better Christians I've met.

I bash Christianity when I have the chance, because I think it holds people back from achieving what they truly can, as well as being a big scam.

However, I try not to bash Christians as it's the religion, not the people, I dislike. It doesn't always work the other way tho, people call me moron, say I'm going to Hell etc, just for posting thought-provoking questions.

I believe most atheists on here would have a similar view. in other words, don't take it personally.

How can you apologize until you know what you've done? Don't you want to know what you can do to fix it?

While I tend not to bash Christians, I occasionally ridicule people who clearly aren't thinking. You're thinking, so you deserve a real response. What have Christians done to upset me? Here's my current list, and it is primarily directed toward fundamentalists, evangelicals, and Roman Catholics:

1. Efforts to prevent the legalization for same-sex marriage have come almost entirely from Christian groups.

2. Anti-homosexual rights efforts in general have been fostered by church groups. These groups are trying to find ways to re-criminalize homosexuality, which mirrors the efforts put forward in Nazi Germany

3. Efforts by Christians to restrict women's control over their bodies by insisting that women are nothing more than incubators, slaves that are meant to carry any fertilized egg until it becomes a child.

4. Efforts to halt stem-cell research based on the assumption that fertilized eggs in fertility clinics are human and so have rights, even though they will be tossed out like yesterday's tuna.

5. Blindness to the torture of foreigners by the US government, a callous first for Christians in over 100 years.

6. The support by most protestant Christians for the death penalty, in spite of the damage it does to human morality because it suggests that killing is a justified response to anything. (Why is it that I as an atheist feel like I have to preach higher morals to Christians?)

7. Efforts to turn science class into a religion class by attempting to insert intelligent design, a religious doctrine that cannot be tested via the scientific method, into science class.

8. The insistence that Christians have a higher standing in the universe than the rest of humanity.

9. The perpetuation of gender stereotypes within families, leading to the curtailment of women's choices and the prevention of children from having a full range of options available as they plan for adult lives. (For example, women can often not become ordained for no reason other than their gender.)

10. The elevation of faith above rational thinking such that people are taught that their emotional responses supersede any rational thought.

You asked. Now the ball is in your court. However, the cynic in me doesn't believe you'll really read the answers. If you read this, please prove me wrong by dropping me an email. Yahoo! Answers will keep your address confidential.

From what I have gathered here in this forum at least, is a view that's being put out there that doesn't exactly represent what your religion is supposed to be about. (Or maybe it is). Not every Christian is hateful or condescending, but I have witnessed a large number who seem to be the most judgmental, and condemning people I've ever ran into.
The ones who spit out hate filled words, and condemnation to someone who has asked a genuine question appalls me. Not one of you according to your religion is supposed to judge another right?, and since that is happening on a daily basis here, one can understand why that would generate a certain amount of hostility.

I honestly don't think I bash Christians, I am just saying my thoughts. I know that some people might interpret it as bashing.

My issue is that Christian 'rights' are forced onto every member of this country, Christian or not. I have never met a Christian who openly agreed that God should not be forced on the money, and in the pledge, and in school. They are even quick to point out that I am free to move to France if I want to be away from God(I didn't know he held American citizenship). They also preach tolerance and loving thy neighbor. But, the very instant someone mentions having religious tolerance the Christians are up in arms.
just my experience. I do not begrudge Christians their rights to celebrate and worship their God. But it should not be force fed to me every step I take.

I am a Christian and very proud of it.. You see religion is a lot like people in general, some are all talk, some only action, some annoy us, and some are easy to get along with. I truly believe that my God and your God could be one in the same. God looks at the heart of every human being and if your thoughts are true and good and you believe what you are doing as far as your choice in religion, he takes that into consideration. Possibly my God has a different name to you...the place is the same and I know where I am going. I do not judge people due to there upbringing, peers, lifestyles and hearts. Everyone has a reason for their choice. My only job here is to raise my children with my beliefs and encourage them to follow those through as that is all they know. Also, if I feel comfy. with someone I feel is astray or could be getting in deep, I do involve myself with some suggestions and I do pray for them to get through it. There are some pushy Christians like in other religions but not all of us are like that and we are ALL loved!!!!

I don't have a problem with Most Christians in general, I have a problem with those who are the Born again fundies. the ones who want to change the world, who think that only they are going to Heaven the rest of the 70% of the world is going to Hell. There going to be "ruptured" when the Anti-Christ Christ. the world is going to end. They like to preach that they and only they are the right and true ones. Evidently they do not know the true teachings of Jesus. They want to deny me my right to practice my religion. In this country we have freedom of religion. and it offends me when people think I should go to another country because of that. also when they claim this is a christian nation, it is not. I'm Pagan. And deny that the Christian religion is in large part based on other religions mainly pagan.

I do not bash Christians myself. But I think the reason why others do is because SOME Christians are very forceful with their beliefs and belittle and insult those who do not follow the same belief system.

And God bless you too my friend.

I've wondered that same thing, Derek K. It seems like if someone is so against God, they would stay as fara s possible away from a religion and spirituality category. Everytime I read something bashing God, I just feel sorry for them. I can't imagine how God feels about some of the things on this page.

I am a Christian too. Do you remember in Matthew 24:9 when Jesus said that we would be killed, and be objects of hatred on account of his name? Jesus warned us that we would be objects of hatred, he even said to be happy because of this. The true Chrisitans who are living their lives in accord with his commandments would be seen others and hated because of it. So if you're being persecuted, be happy! Not to mention that living in the last days the end of false religions is near. The bible has many prophecies that explain the question you're asking. The Jehovah's Witnesses are giving out a tract right now (they came to my door) that shows the scriptures on why this is happening. It will just show you in your bible why this is going on. No one has any real reasons for hating another person, race, religion etc. I guess what I'm trying to say is comming on here and asking people will get you answers from humans, but if you look into your bible, you'll get your answer from God.
