I believe there are dog foods and snacks that contain this ingredient but why not cat food or snacks?

Hi there...there are some manufacturers that include pork (not ham) in their cat food brands...one example is: Eagle Pack Cat Food http://www.dogfooddirect.com/EaglePackCatFood.htm

Pork Meal is an expensive ingredient so you seldom see it in other pet food brands. It is a hypoallergenic ingredient. It has an excellent amino acid and Omega fatty acid profile.

As a raw meat feeder I know that we are not advised to use pork for the protein source even though pork is not as fatty as it used to be. Ham of course is "cured" pork, highly laced with salt as preservative and that's not desirable for cats.

Pork is also a relatively expensive meat in comparison to chicken.

Because a cat's digestive system is not designed by nature to process that type of meat.

So, why should they make cat food with it?

I had heard they didnt appeal to a cats palate.

I always wondered why they dont make "mouse flavoured" cat food.
