I would stay alway from daycares that let the kids go barefoot all day for reasons stated above, though I agree they should be able to take them off when sleeping. Beleive it or not this is very common at d/c. Their reason for having them sleep in them does sort of make sense. If they suddenly had to evacuate they would not have time to put their shoes on and therefore you would have 15+ kids standing on the hot or cold ground. Also dropping or stepping on a toy could hurt her feet as well when they are awake. And guess what some parents would blame the d/c for not having shoes on them. Finally the workers probably do not want to have to tie all those kids shoes after their nap.
My sons have been wearing them that long almost everyday since they have been walking even in our home. We have floors instead of carpet in the living room/kitchen and do not like them walking/ running on them without shoes. My youngest sons shoes use to feel like a sona when we would take them off at night when he first started walking, but after a few months of wearing them everyday his feet got use to being in them. I think its normal for their little feet to sweat a lot at this age as their sweat glans are very active. Try having her wear them on the weekends as well. I know this might sound counter active, but by wearing them everyday she will get more use to having them on. Do not worry about any harm being done to her feet, just make sure her shoes do not get to small as it can deform her feet. Also as others have said buy her shoes made of leather and have her wear 100% cotton socks. You should also alternate between shoes everyday to allow them time to dry out. Sandals are not practical for young children as they do not allow them to move around as feely or offer the protection even though more parents are putting them on them these days.

Sorry I have to agree with your daycare. Try buying quality shoes instead of plastic cheap ones, and make sure she is wearing 100% cotton socks. I'd rather my child have sweaty feet than take the chance of stepping on something or not having sure footing in a fire or other emergency.

My children have been in daycare for five years, and I have never heard of them not taking shoes off during naps. I understand having them wear shoes throughout the day when they're playing, but they need their shoes off when they nap. I would definitely talk with them about this. That's a long time for a three year old to wear shoes!

they do the same thing at the daycare my daughter goes to. but their reasoning is so that their little toes dont get stepped on. the reason they gave you isnt really a good reason because why cant they wear sandals then? my daughter cant wear sandals either. i think its a health issue but agree that they should be able to take shoes off while sleeping.

I have been a teacher at several learning centers/daycares over the past 13 years and yes it is very standard. They have to wear them for safety, such as a fire drill, stubbed toes, tripping, getting something stuck in their foot, toes stepped on, toys dropped on toes and many more. I know it stinks and i used to feel bad for little ones who had to wear them so long...but it really is for her safety. Actually it is a State Regulation in NH where I live.

My little brother doesn't! We drop him off @ 8:00 and when he gets in there they tell him to take off his shoes and socks and go play in the ball pit. He has to wear shoes when they go out side on the playground. when they are inside listening to stories, playing on the computer, and sleeping they can take of thier shoes. some kids even where slippers!

I understand the need to keep shoes on during the day while running around. that is a safety thing. BUT she should be able to change her shoes if possiblethroughout the day. Maybe just buy some cheep ballet style slippers for her to sleep in if the policy is to sleep in shoes. It is hard to be a single mom, I am one too. Keep smilin!

they wear shoes at my daughters daycare too. We also have to bring there sleepers so they can wear instead of shoes but they tell us its becasue of all the germs that are on the floor and they dont want kids passing it. i kinda think its a pretty good idea...but thats just my idea..goodluck!

my 3 and 4 year old go to day care and in their daycare they are allowd sandels and also to take of their shoes but if they started the day out in socks they want them to keep them on. this was disscussed amoung my friends whose children are in daycare and it seems to be about a 50/50 split depending mainly on the size of the day care with the smaller ones allowing the shoes to come off.
