Nail techs can make good money ($18 - $40 hr or more), but depending on the area and salon it takes time to build a clientelle. Medical assistants can start out making OK money, and its guaranteed, plus you can get benefits. Its hard for those of us in the salon industry to find a salon that offers health benefits since most of the time you are considered an independant contractor.
If you want more info on the salon biz, go to beautytech.com and talk to the girls on the message board. They can tell you all you need to know.
Whatever you choose, do what you love. Money will never buy you happiness.

As that's my career, I make fairly good money. i'm no longer going to state my income. All i will say is that I stay very conveniently. I extremely have also been "doing nails" for 14 years. My prices are properly above the different salons and that i have an exceedingly affluential clients. It also extremely relies upon on when you're strong on the skill in touch and are confident and are employed at a extreme end salon. Nail techs reportedly can earn as a lot as $one hundred,000 and better... that's no comic tale. artwork your tail off and also you've were given it made. i do not understand of absolutely everyone operating as a clinical assistant incomes that volume.

personally, go with what you love to do more... not only the money. I am a makeup artist and absolutely love my job. I am not known in hollywood just yet but when I get there I know I will be making big money so if you have skills in hair and nails go for it! when you do get big in hollywood be prepared for loooong hours traveling, and sometimes no work for months! (unless your on a high budget movie for a year or so) but if you want to go into a medicinal field because you like research, helping others, etc. go for that!
