Evolution is a faith, not a science. "What is evolution based upon? Upon nothing whatever but faith, upon belief in the reality of the unseen -- belief in fossils that cannot be produced, beliefe in embryological evidence that does not exist, belief in the breeding experiment that refuse to come off. It is faith 'unjustified by works.'" -Arthur N. Fields.

Most scientists and most religious people don't conflict over evolution. Science is not concerned with matters of God, by definition, so there is plenty of room for religion to say that God created us through evolution.

However, some religious people insist on a literal reading of some parts of their holy texts. It is probably partly to do with the fact that they think an ancient world, and a link between us and the 'lower' animals, degrades human beings. In the same way that many people reacted to Copernicus and Galileo when they discovered that the Earth wasn't the centre of the universe. It makes people feel less special.

Some do already. Some believe that God made evolution possible. In several million years, assuming that the world still knows us well today because we have much more recorded information that will survive, the creationists who don't believe in evolution will be proven wrong because humans will have changed (according to The Simpsons, mankind will have grown another finger)

Edit: To the guy who says that evolution was disproven, your examples hardly disprove it, relying on faith instead of science (not that I don't believe in the Bible, I'm just saying that it probably was more of a moral guide than an absolute truth). And who's to say god didn't look like a monkey?

There is no common ground because science indicates we are part of the "big bang" , and religion says. "God is creator". I find this difficult too, but not impossible to get through when faced with courses in science or conversations in general. I back out graciously and hold on to my beliefs. Debating is worthless, when the only common ground between the two are; that there is none.

If religious fanatics found out we(humans ) were not the only one who existed and science proved that Aliens existed they would freak because everything that they believed would be wrong

Evolution was disproven. As a scientist (meteorology) myself, I don't understand why people still take it to heart. The Bible specifically says that God made the Heavens, the Earth, and its inhabitants (including humans and animals) in six days. This alone conflicts with it. It also says that God created mankind in His image, not a monkey's.

Religion relies on subjective experiences. Science relies on being objective.
