I think Vitamin D is processed in your body with/through sunlight naturally - but they started adding it in milk decades ago. I would have to say that staying out of the sun and not ingesting foods rich in vitamin d additives would result in lack of vitamin d - not actually destroy it but reduce it and not replenish it.
