I currently am Dealing with a bad back. I saw a Orthopedist and was told I need surgery in the future and for the time being I need to be on long term Pain meds, and to go to a Pain Management center. One Prob, my insurance, so I was told by my ortho to go to a Doc that could deal with the same meds as the pain center. Found a Doc, have been on Oxycontin and Norco for the last year, Norco for much longer. The Doc I found realized after a few months that my isurance there was not covered, so again I had to find a new doc to cover, went to my original doc, family doc, she said she could write me my scripts, two months later she says she is not comftorable with them, like she talked to someone and they scared her or something about them. So she trys to get me into a pain center, we are in contact abou the process, next thing you know im callin her for a refill and im told ive been released because i shouldbe at the pain center, well im not there for 2 weeks, what do you I do inbetween?

If what you have said is true--your family doctor can not allow you to go into withdrawel over a 2 week wait.

Ask her for a 2 week supply--have the pain clinic call and verify your appt.
let the pain clinic know what is happening.

Good luck--if you read around this topic here and see all those that abuse these meds--you can thank them for the docs being scared to prescribe!

Well, first off , I too would call the Dr. you were seeing at the Pain clinic and are planning on seeing again and have that Dr. call your primary care, family to cover, like the other gal said until you get back to the Pain Center. When you saw the Orthopedist did he referr you to a Neurologist as they are ususally tied right in with the pain clinic as they do the back surgeries..Have you signed or broken any pain contracts with any of these Drs.? Do they all know what the other one is doing? I am on disability so I have medicare, what insurance do you have or if you don't want to say I think I would be calling them as they sound worthless. You are in the midst of the damn if you do and d--- if you don't. The problem with having to deal with your family Dr. for very long is they get their licensed pulled right and left because of people that are "Dr.shopping". Not saying this is the case with you but that is what happens. Then these so called patients go out and sell the drugs on the street and walla, those that need the meds are in a mess. Bringing in a copy of your states right to Pain Management is also a good idea as she would see you are seriously trying to correct this problem. But first, have the pain Dr. you have seen, the Ortho. etc. call her and let her know your situation. When this is all straightened out I would find a Neurologist,am surprised the Ortho did not refer you to one and get going on that end. I sure wish you the best and am sorry you have to fight so hard to get the relief you deserve. As far as just buck up,exercise etc. that is all fine and good and some moving around does help but until you have an MRI and a Diskogram you might not want to be doing any high dives off the board. Everyones back/spine problems are different in severity, disease etc. so for one to diagnose another does not work..

Well from my point of view, since I have had 30 back injuries in my past working days,I find that self control releaves my pain, by doing things ,keeping buisy as much as possible,Ice packs works good ,heat packs also work, The saying is (mostion is the postion).I refuse to take pain meds ,I do have them but only use them when nessary.I've also had 5 operations on shoulder,so I use artheritis tylenal extra pain relief works great and your not all doped up.
I hope this helps.

I would suggest calling your doctor and telling her that your have two weeks or so until you can get into the center. Ask her to verify it for her own comfort but that you need your meds from her, at least enough to hold you over until your approved into the clinic. Take documentation with you that you are trying to get into the clinic so that she won't think that your some kind of drug addict. Call her and schedule a consult. She took an oath to help people. You are one of those people. Good luck babe.

You might think about shopping around for another doctor.

I strained my back (babysitting) last November. I doubt that my back is as bad as your's, but I bought a back brace at Wal-Mart and found that it brings a lot of relief. I take over-the-counter Backaid tablets. Also, a pillow between the legs during sleep brings relief.

I hope things get better for you.

look for a web site that deals with back pain and it should have some exercises suited for back pain posed to help... at least that what my therapist put me on 7 years ago and it helped to a degree.......i use arthritis rubbing compounds and warm showers hot as u can stand and just let the heat from the water beat on your back where it hurts...feels so good
