I'm thinking about buying a new car. The interior and exterior are all in perfect condition. My boyfriend drove it, and he says it drove just fine (except he doesnt know alot about cars)..I think it seems like a good buy for $12,500, but I'm worried about the high mileage.
Is 93,000 Miles alot for a 1999? If it is, about how many miles should I be looking for in a 1999-2003 SUV?

Anything would be helpfull, thanks guys.

It is about right for a 7 year old car. Go with a mechanic or a friend or relative who knows about used cars. If the miles have been done in the highway and the oil has been changed (ask for receipts,) then you can think if it is worth.
I believe the price is a bit high, try to get a discount.

there is really no amount of typical mileage you should be looking for per say. Under 100,000 is good. But what you really need to know with that kind of mileage is what has the maintanance been like? Was the oil changed regularly and such. Those types of things are really important. If yes, 93,000 is good, if not.....not so great. What you really need to do is take it to your mechanic or have a friend or family member that is an expert with vehicles take a look all under the hood.....head to toe exam if you will....Check the tires, breaks, rotars ect...you don't want to buy it and then wind up having to replace tons of stuff in the next 6 months to a yr.
Have it checked, that is your safest bet, don't ask the one selling it, because you already know what they are going to say. If they will not allow you to have it checked by the mechanic of your choice don't buy it! They have something to hide....I know I have been there done that. And I PAID for it in more ways than one.

The average mileage for most Americans in suburban areas is about 12,000 miles per year. So according to this standard the normal mileage should be about 84,000 miles. So the Expedition is about 11,000 miles over what most vehicles from 1999 would be but remember highway miles are less strenuous on a car than city miles. Hope my advice was helpful.

If you are going to spend $12500 for a used car, there are a lot of choices out there.. perhaps a lot better than 1999 Ford Explorer such as Toyota 4Runner and Nissan Pathfinder with decent miles on them.. but it is up to you since you may have difference preference in cars and trucks.. good luck!

I had a 1998 Expedition. It had about 150,000 KILOMETERS (I live in Canada) and was well maintained. It was ok when it was newer but once it turned about 9 or10 years old it was broken every other week. It was nickel and diming us to death. In the last 4 months we had it we spent about $2000 fixing stuff. We ended up just buying something new. I must say I wouldn't buy it, it is too old and pretty high mileage. It is ultimately up to you though.

Just remember all other things being equal, what you are buying is in fact miles... the fewer there are on what ever you buy the more of them you get to use...
