isn't that always the case....what ever you do is going to hurt him....he probloby like you for a long time and gave you space and respect like a man should ...he got to know well thats you are close friends...he had to learn this lesson the hard way....us nice guys can't win next time he needs to make his move a lot faster and forget the whole friendship thing cuz in the end it hurts a lot more than being flat out rejected....be honest and let the man of the hook so he can find someone...

You have to just tell him flat out! If you leave ANY shreds of hope, he will cling to them. Seriously, guys need you to be DIRECT. Don't be wishy washy like girls can be... the whole, "I don't want to hurt your feelings, I really like you, but not like that.. bla bla bla". Guys need to hear, "I really like you as my friend, but NOTHING more, I'm really sorry, but it won't happen between us so you should move on and hopefully we can stay friends, but if you can't handle that, then I understand". You have to be willing to let him go for a little if he can't be friends with you, otherwise he'll just be hurt MORE in the end because he won't move on and will get fixated on you and cling to the hope that you could be together.

It's a tough situation, I wish you the best.
