A true prophet is someone who makes accurate predictions of the future 100% of the time. Anything less than that reveals that the person is a false prophet.

According to Moses a prophet: (1) had to foretell some future event with perfect accuracy; (2) had to work miracles in front of witnesses; and, (3) could not contradict another confirmed prophet (God does not contradict himself)

They perform miracles and fulfill previous prophecies. Sometimes other religions forge books like the Gospel of Barnabas to use the "fulfill previous prophecies" stipulation for the purpose of indentifying their leader as a prophet. False prophets change things around and exploit peoples ignorance to spread their religion.

Deuteronomy 18:22
"When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

A true prophet can be found when he does not PROFIT from his missions. As soon as he starts collecting, collect your things and pack up then go away.
At this time, be discerning because there is only one and you may not even like him because his truth is going to hurt so much.
Specially in this time when many will try to act as the prophet. Deception is much stronger for we gave ourselves up to it for so long.

If a prophet profits from being a prophet, then he is probably a charletan. Only unprofitable prophets are prophets. If you can say that ten times fast, you too are a prophet.

well to explain this i tell u how i did.

well! first of all,
1)put back ur ignorance,
2)stop trusting ppl's words on this matter as everyone has it's own opinion.
3) try to analyze n understand what prophet brought.
4) use ur brain to analyze if it's truth or not, look for evidence...
5)if something is unacceptable then try to find logic behind,u will get to know why God asked for this,if it's truth.(as prophet is God's messenger)
as this is belief, belief never comes with proof.u will have to bring willingness to understand,n follow ur heart.

hope this helps,
may God provide guidance to whole humanity(ameen)

Chances are pretty good that if someone claims to be a prophet, they are a false prophet.

I think that if someone really puts aside all selfish desires, only then can they speak eternal truths. If what they say is motivated at all by something selfish, then it is no good. So I think we need to consider the motives.

My method is: if someone says he is a prophet...I don't trust that to be the truth. Ever. This person would have to have something to gain by making such a statement. Notariety, monetary gain, faithful followers or a death wish.

Kill him, if he gets up and walks around after day three he is the real thing.
I know that I read a section in a bible where a prophet must be absolutely accurate, the predictions need to be in his own lifetime and if they are not you should kill him, kind of puts a crimp into the profit business.
