Say for some reason or another one of your larger bones was completely shattered. Could doctors fix that? How would they get it all out? Or could that even happen?

It is possible to shatter your large bones--like your femur(thigh) bone) in accidents involving extreme force like skiing, motorcycle accident, or being hit by a car. Dr. usually don't remove the shattered bones, but they use a fixation device to hold the fragments in place until they knit back together. Another thing they may do is insert a rod through the bone to help stablize it until it heals.

they might have to graft bone onto it, but they dont really have too much trouble finding the bone fragments unless you really were in a crusing wreck and then it likely would have to be amputated because if the bone is that bad the flesh and veins would likely be destroyed.

happens alot and they can reconstruct alot of it around a steel rod. if its too crushed usually people bleed to death because bone has alot of blood it it when its normal.
