I'm not gonna give you a complicated answer - these are the things that are gonna mess up your tube TV:

Magnets
Open flame or intense heat - such as from a fireplace or radiator
Sparks - the kind from a gas stove or a grill ignitor.
Placing objects directly on top of your TV can even mess up your TV, like DVD players and things
And dust and wear and tear.

TV uses a CRT or Cathode Ray Tube, the color you see on the screen is cause by the electon gun hitting the phosphor surface of the CRT.

Over time the electron gun which compose of filaments at the end neck of the tube degrades, either the filament elements slowly burns out, or corrosion cause the filament connection to degrades, usually about betwwen the 8th and 10th year of their lifespan, that is when the color fades or mess up, including the resolutions of the screen.

Another possibility are the yoke and flybacks that burns out, which also causes the deflection to mess up the images.

It is hard to say, specially when it's just a question and we can not open the tv to see what is going on, but I do have one suggestion. Do you have any big speaker close to the TV? Usually when speakers are near the tv, it causes the very same problem that you are having now. Just in case.
