I would like to find a free program that will allow me to see if I have any unwanted programs running in the background that I don't know about that are affecting my system memory.

Yes. You can do control+alt+delete and click processes when the Task Manager pops up. That will give you a list of all the processes currently running.

If you want more information then you can get Hijack This. It is an antispyware program that analyzes everything running on your computer. It will give you a log which you should then post on computer forums to ask if everything's ok. Be very careful as Hijack this can damage your system if you make a mistake.

You have it.

Assume Windows is running, hopefully your antivirus program, screensaver, and anything else you have open in startup.

To do this: cl Start, cl Settings, cl Taskbar and Start Menu.
ocl Start Menu, cl Customize, cl Remove.
ocl the icon for the program you wish to remove
othen cl Remove.
oThis will prevent the program from loading at startup, but will not remove the program from the hard disk.

Many people do not realize how much memory a screensaver uses - especially those full of graphics. I had fun with the slide show for awhile, then set my PC screensaver to blank.
