My husband and I just bought our first house and want to make it unique, no more white walls. We want to paint our living room bright and warm but we think we limited ourselves by getting a red couch. Please let us give us some helpful advice

Of course, it all depends on what shade of red you're talking about. If you're looking for a "warm" feeling, then a deep, rich color may work. Some sort of gold/green tone could be OK, unless your red is "bright". Also, a shade of tan, perhaps with a touch of orange might give you the feel you want.

I like to paint my house a lot and really enjoy taking chances with color. I go to someplace like Lowe's or Home Depot and go to the paint department. I get dozens of samples of what I think might work for a particular room and take them home. hold them up next to the other items in the room. I tape the promising ones to the wall and look at in different light conditions. If I'm not sure about any choice that I make, I go buy a quart and paint part of a wall then decide if I want to commit to it.

I'm with you about white walls - how boring! It's your house. Paint it however you like and enjoy it.

My mom has a red microfiber couch and she did an accent wall in a beige and then she got some really pretty wallpaper and border and did that on the other walls just a third of the way up. Looks great and then just get some contrasting throw pillows.

As an interior decorator I must congratulate you on your choice of a red sofa! Very sexy and gutsy!

I recommend a middle shade of taupe with a slight pink or brown undertone. Taupe is a lovely warm neutral that goes with any shade of red and any shade of flooring.

The paint store staff can help you find the right colour. If you can find C2 paint (at an independent store) they have 16" x 18" sample chips available and you can put it up and check it out.

If it is a deeper red, a cool choice is a bright retro green. Anywhere between avocado and chartreuse depending on the "heat" of your red. I did one wall my kitchen in a True Value paint color called Olive Range, I think. My accent color (placemats, mixer, art) is an "old" deep red. It's very warm with my caramel-and black-speckle countertops and adjoining caramel-colored walls.

Red couch.. The ONLY ONLY ONLY color I would go with is a soft beige.. some paint stores call it cracked wheat but they would get the idea.. It is a soft, warm beige.. You need something less harsh due to the RED couch... Oh yes... that paint to be a satin finish.. NOT semi-gloss or flat

Blonde, by Sherwin Williams in Satin. A beautiful color that is very popular. Try checking out hgtv.com and go to the message boards on painting and decorating. You will find lots of great ideas. I have transformed my entire house with 1 gallon per paint per room.

We have a cranberry colored couch and love seat and our walls are painted a color called wildflower honey (Behr # 350B-6). it is a warm color and makes a very attractive contrast. If you don't care for the yellow tones consider something in the khaki color range.

Brighten up the darker spaces by painting the walls in pale colors.

Yellow really looks sharp with red furniture, you need a darker shade of yellow (not pastel). There is a color called peanut brittle that really nice!

to go for the warm feeling i would recomend a chocolate brown or a deep brownish orangish color...that would match your couch AND create a warm and inviting touch to your home! good luck!
