The Quakers had a man many considered to be a prophet. Nathan ***** predicted the meeting house would turn red from the blood of the Revolutionary War. During the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, it was used as a hospital, and when the wounded and dead were piled against the wall, it was stained up to six feet. When in 1805, ***** predicted the Civil War, the Friends started leaving the the Carolinas and went to Ohio and Indiana.

Its amazing how many call Paul and the Bible liars. He clearly taught that the church has prophets and apostles. These scorners have a semblence of godliness but deny the power thereof.

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)
5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

The book of Acts speaks for many prophets after Christ.

And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

It's impossible to answer this on the level of individuals, but most Christian faiths that I know of are quite content that the Bible is the alpha and omega of the Word of God. Okay, some proclaim that gifts of the spirit are active, and that you only need the Scriptures plus being in tune with the Holy Spirit.
Frankly, I don't think that really clarifies anything. If it really doesn't matter what you believe or what faith you belong to, then why should there be so much contention about how the other guy is wrong? Many Christian statements of belief infer this, if not declaring it outright.
If it DOES matter, then surely it makes sense that God would use the same organization as worked throughout the scriptures? Namely with prophets to lead and direct his Church. The Holy Spirit is still a vital component - from the individual level on up - but to believe that God's word is finished and that he has nothing to say today just doesn't make sense. Yes God is the same yesterday, today and forever, but we change, circumstances change - we need a prophet just as much as the Old Testament Jews did. Lack thereof is evidence of the apostasy: Man's pride that they can carve their own path to Heaven.

The Mormons is the largest church that believes in modern living prophets, though I think there are some small ones that do also.

NOT believing in a modern day prophet would be like believing that God DOESN'T love us and left us alone. He has "news" for us and it is revealed through his prophet that leads the true chruch, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Jesus IS the Christ, He loves us, He is our elder brother.

Hi, not sure what the Pope's status is from a Catholic viewpoint, I know it's changed over the years, but I "suspect" that the Catholic Church has some adherents who consider him a spokesman for the Savior...

Interesting to read some of the negative LDS comments, I'm always fascinated to see a doctrine of love and respect vilified...And for those Bible thumpers, note that the books of the Bible, were written separately, and shuffled into and out of the collection over hundreds of years, and that there are several competing Bibles around today. If you're going to use that Holy Book to thump the Church, pray tell us which one you have selected at the right one..Regards, Fred

The Mormon church views Jesus and Satan as spirit brothers and sons of God. God put forth His plan of salvation for the world, and Satan proposed his own plan. Jesus accepted the Father's plan and offered to implement it as the Savior. The Father chose Jesus, and the spirit of Jesus was given a body through the virgin Mary. He was crucified on a Roman cross, and rose from the dead three days later to establish His deity. The character and life of Jesus is attainable by anyone who performs at such a righteous level. The Christian church teaches that Jesus Christ has existed eternally as the Son of God, the second "person" of the Trinity. Jesus took on human flesh about 2000 years ago and was born into the world through the virgin Mary. He was crucified on a Roman cross for our sins, and rose from the dead three days later to establish His deity.
Thats not in the bible.....So it makes it a cult!

Actually Mormons believe that Jesus is not the one and only true son of God. They dont believe in his atonement for sin and they think the cross is foolishness.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. -1 Corinthians 1:18
