(I'd say he 'd get a drunk and disorderly..disturbing the peace or a simple assault..regardless, if it is a 1st offense and he his a juve...he'll get probation,
and can probably get his juve record expunged(sealed) when he reaches 18 to avoid it following him for the rest of his life...

If I had my way I would lock him up for at least a year. Someone, intoxicated or not, that has the thought process of assaulting a law enforcement officer has crossed some serious boundaries we are taught early on. Holding him accountable at this juncture may be the saving grace. The real question is did he actually swing on the officer or maybe resist a bit and they are calling it an assault. That will make a difference.

Hehehe...
He'll be sent to Juvenile Matters court, where if it is his first offense, he'll go on probation, and counseling.
The good think about juvenile matters is that they look at everything before giving a harsh sentence, and he did not kill anyone. We also don't know what the cop may have done to instigate a reactive kid, rather than de-escalate the situation.
He messes up again, it is jail time

He is a juvenile so he probably will get little jail time. There will probably some sort of fine for underage drinking and public intoxication. He may also be placed on probation or in a rehabilitation program for anger/violence and/or alcohol abuse.

This same thing happened to me when I was 14. All I really got was 6 months probation. I had to write a paper on the dangers of drinking...so for me it was no big deal. Hopefully it won't be a big deal for him either since he is only 16.

if he is lucky probation, and rehab.
Due to his age, with a decent lawyer he could probably get out of jail time by going to boot camp. Boot camp is a whole lot better than jail.

Could very well be looking at a LOT of time... but I would say no more than 3 years. and if it is his first offense I'm sure it wouldn't be any more than 6 months.... tell him not to worry about it too much...
