Viagra works but works but using "b*ner in a bottle" wreaks havoc with my self esteem. My loved ones don't want me to change my medication because of the positive results. Is the answer "get over your big hairy man complex and be grateful you have something that works"?

Speak to your doctor about the side effects you are having. It may be as simple as changing your dosage or trying a different med. As far as the Viagra goes...does it still feel good to have sex? Can you still have an orgasm? Do you still have a good sex drive? If you answered yes to all those questions. Then i wouldn't worry too much about "not being a man" because you are taking Viagra. To me it would be quite the opposite if you didn't.
If a woman is dry...does she not use lubrication? If she does...does that make her less than a woman?
Relax...feeling good mentally and physically. What more could you ask for?

Well, before you started this medication did you even have a sex drive? I am not sure what mental health issues you have, nor what sort of medication you are on, but in a lot of cases I would think that your sex drive was probably affected by the mental condition anyway. It is however more than likely the medication causeing the erctile problems, it's not you so you should not be ashamed of having to use viagra. You can have the best of both worlds if you just find some confidence in the fact that you can't change your bodies chemistry.

First off I'm going to say that not being a man I can't fully comprehend the depth of this causing your self esteem issue.
I can say just as a person I can grasp the idea of something that should be a "normal" activity that you are not able to preform in a "normal" fashion would cause frustration, aggravation and mess about with your self image and self esteem.
As for your loved ones not wanting you to change your medication, well that simply shows their love for you and their care for your quality of life. But there are so many types of medications that can effect the rest of your body in unexpected and unwelcome ways. That being said, I would still suggest you speak with your doctor(s) about changing your medication if you feel that my next suggestions are not applicable.
I am assuming that since you are on medications for mental health that you are also actively involved with a counselor or therapist. Maybe you should bring this issue up with him/her. Another suggestion would be to check in your area for support groups of ED sufferers. While I understand the problems you are having are due to medication it still might help restore your sense of self if you were to take part in a group such as this.

I would think having a properly working erection is better than having positive mental health - LOL. On the other hand, however, have you considered that your erectile problem is only perceived? Stop worrying about Mr. Happy and let him do what comes natural to him. Too many times our thoughts, fears, concerns and/or convictions cause the problem.
If the medication is relaxing you to the point that Mr. Happy can't hear the dinner bell then you should seriously consider talking to your doctor about switching meds.

almost all anti-depressants carry the side effect of interfering with erections and/or ejaculations. unfortunately, that's the price you have to pay to recover from a mental illness.
i am a survivor of depression and i had to ask myself what is more important-----good mental health or an active sex life. that's a pretty difficult decison to have to reach. i chose recovery from depression and, yes, it did wreck havoc on my wife's and my sex life. WELLBUTRIN is an anti-depressant that carries little or no sexual side effects.
there's nothing wrong with taking a viagra pill before engaging in sexual activities. if it helps you, don't feel any less a man because you need this assistance. use it! depend on it!
enjoy a happy and long sex life by swallowing the blue pill.

ED can be caused by many things including medications for mental health and for health conditions. Age and an enlarge prostate can cause ED.

Tell you doctor that you do not like the side effects of ED. There may be another psychotropic medication that does not have the ED side effect.

If you approach it with an open mind you see that the results are great. I too have the same issue and have found that Viagra is a great way to deal with it. It takes a little time to get used to and some planning has to be done but it the long run, it works. The only other thing you might do is discuss the doctor changing your meds. I went from Paxel to Effexor and that seemsed to help with both issues.

Speak to the doctor that prescribed the pills for your mental health condition. Tell him about the side effects you're experiencing and ask him if there is a different medication you can try.

I, myself have depression and other mental illnesses. My first guess is that you have depression as well becuase people with depression tend to think alot more negatively and blame them for these unfortunate things.

You got to understand that its not your fault that youre having an ED, but rather its due to the medication. Speak to your counselor for ways to change your thoughts on this topic. If the medication is working really well for your mental illness, then you should probably stick to it because trying out different meds is a pain in the ***
