She is right. First, false religion will be destroyed, then the "great tribulation" will come. It will culminate in Armageddon.

Does your mum say how she "knows" this, pray tell?
You know, religious people have been saying that for many hundreds of years, if not thousands. If I had to guess, I'd say the Bible is probably her source.
If so, I give you Martin Gardner, author of "Did Adam and Eve Have Navels? -- Debunking Pseudoscience"...
"You would think that believers in the imminence of Christ's return would be bothered by the fact that, ever since the gospels were written, huge numbers of Christians have interpreted Biblical signs of the end as applying to *their* generation."
Yes, you would. But it doesn't seem to stop the endless--and tiresome--predictions and warnings. He goes on to cite many examples: 2000, 1000 (yes, of course God would choose a nice round number from a calendar humans invented!--aaghh, the hubrice!), 1988, 1845, 1918, and 1833 among them.
While the world may, indeed, be coming to an end, it will be due to our own ignorance, aggression, stupidity, selfishness and general mismanagement of the planet, if it happens. In other words, we have a great deal of control over that answer. Whether we exercise it or not is another matter.
Of course, in the off chance that we humans *don't* muck it up before then, the sun's death will take care of the end of the earth. But don't bother making arrangements; that will be some five billion years from now.
So the short answer is yes.
The more practical answer:
Help take care of the earth, and live your life... if not without fear, then at least without fear of this.

Of course it is. It says so in the Bible. There will be a final judgement. It is not likely to be very soon though despite what people have been saying for centuries that their's is the generation for the end. None so far have been right so I'm not too concerned. I'm also not worried because I'm a Christian and I will eventually end up in Heaven for eternity. Whether I live through the end of the world or not or I die a good death or a painful one I'm not concerned because I know for certain beyond a shadow of a doubt where I'll end up when I do die.

A lot of people think the final push is just around the corner, and that Jesus will be back very soon. It's dangerous to predict the day of His return though, the Bible says he will come like a thief in the night, we will be caught by surprise......the thing is that one day, He really will be back and then it will be too late to make the choice for or against him. Christians must not be too concerned about the day, we are just to be ready, ie busy doing the work He asks and equips us to do, so we are not caught napping when He comes back.

Yes, it is certainly coming to an end. How far that time is from now, God only knows.
"This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, "Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation."
For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. 2 Peter 3:1-14

I'm not sure what perspective you mum is coming from because many different cultures/religions believe this is true. As a fundamental Christian, I believe it is true because it has been prophesied in the Bible quite clearly. No, we don't know the exact date, but all the end time prophesies are coming true right now. It is a scary time to be alive knowing what is going to happen, but as a Christian I know a better world is coming with Christ's return. God loves us enough to give us a head's up on future events and only those who refuse to look for the signs are going to be deceived. Do not lose heart, have courage and believe. Yes,thank god.
Maybe the next one will be better, but i doubt it.
There is no 'line' between your Mum's world and the next, which you will live in.
It's a gradual thing as things change.
CD to IPOD.
Or for me 'Vinyl to CD'
Yes, your mums world is coming to an end, but it will be replaced.
For a better or worse world is upto your generation.
Good luck son, good luck.

That's what the Mayans (their calenders have been accurate on predicting lunar eclipses) believe; their calender ends on Decmber 23, 2012 but then again the Earth must replenish herself from what has been destroying her: humans
