Yes, as long as you modify your eating and lifestyle habits. Walking is great because there is little wear and tear on the joints like running, you need no special equipment, and can be done indoors when the weather is foul, or outdoors. I would suggest keeping a log of distance and time. Also keep track of terrain (ie. hilly vs flat). You will find that if you begin at your own pace, and continue to advance, you will feel better, have more energy, which will help you make it a lifestyle change. This also goes for dieting. If it has been awhile, I would also suggest a physical to make sure you have no medical problems.

Absolutely. There's fewer better ways to go about it. If you need a good diet plan, you might think about trying this book called "The Movie Star Diet" by Steve Simmons. It helped me lose thirty pounds in 2 1/2 months when I didn't think anything would work. My goal to begin with was only 20 lbs! It has a really easy plan to follow and an excellent workout to use as well.

Diet and exercise is the BEST way to lose weight. It has a longer result then fad dieting. If you drink pop...give it up...I quit drinking pop and went to drinking water and I lost 65lbs in 3 months...takes awhile for the water to detox your system though. You need to do an exercise program that will raise your heart rate and it should last approx 30mins or more for the best results.
Congrats and best wishes...good to see someone is willing to lose weight the correct way!

Yes, providing that you do it at least 3 or 4 times a week. I know lots of people that have done that and not only did they lose weight, but they felt better and looked great!

Absolutely...if you want to make sure you are getting the most out of your walk, make sure your heart rate is working in the right target zone for weightloss which is about 65% of your max heart rate for your age
********Calculating your maximum heart rate********
The standard method for calculating heart rate training zone is based on estimating maximum heart rate using the formula 220 minus the persons age in years. Some practitioners believe that a woman estimated maximum heart rate can be calculated more accurately by using 226 instead of 220.
If you are really keen you can invest in a heart rate monitor to keep track of your heart rate throughout your walk so you dont work harder than you need to or less than what you should!

Deffinately! Slowly make speed up on your walks. Take in 1,200-1,400 calories a day. It takes 3,500 calories to gain 1 pound. Same to lose it. you have to burn 3,500 calories to lose 1 pound. You burn about 1,800 calories a day just with your daily routine. (give a little, take a little, depends on your weight, build and metabolism.) throughout the week, you have to burn more calories than you take it. So, if you burn 1,800 calories a day, in 7 days, that is 12,600 calories burned a week. if you take in 1,200 calories a day, thats 8,400 calories in 7 days. Subtract intake from burned in a week and you get 4,200. You will lose at LEAST 1 pound. Get yourself a little book that tells you how many calories are in foods and their serving sizes. And look up a website (or try this one http://www.coolnurse.com/calories_burned.htm) that tells you how many calories you will burn doing certain excercises in so much time (they usually go by the hour and your weight) and if you do those excercises for that long, ADD those calories you burned to your 1,800 (or how ever much you find out you burn on your own) ADD that to the 12,600 in a week and subtract the 8,400 you take in a week, you will have burned more that 4,200 calories. So, you will lose more weight that way. And remember, you don't burn calories laying around! GOOD LUCK!
