Jesus said, "It is EASIER for a camel to pass throught the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of Heaven." So, firstly, he's saying it is harder for a rich person to go to Heaven. Why? Because (in his time at least) the people who were wealthy were also the people with power and authority - the people who would find it most difficult to submit to a Higher Power. Then (as is still often the case) the wealthy and powerful were more inclined to follow their own desires rather than the rules "the little people" have to follow. (If you have any doubts of this, just look at how entertainers and athletes are treated by the courts...)

Secondly, the people listening to Jesus would have known that one of the gates of Jerusalem was nicknamed "the eye of the needle" by the locals because it was so small; therefore, a camel COULD pass through - but it had to be completely unloaded and then coaxed through in a crouching posture. So Jesus is not describing something impossible, but rather something difficult.

improbable. Anyone who would purchase a rolex can not be using his resources in a way pleasing to one who sees all do you think. Comfort is one thing but waste when some children do not have clean drinking water is something that is a serious over sight. I am old live on a small fixed income because of a military disability and give towrds that worthy charity but some would rather have a fancy watch. extravagance I think will be judged as wrong behavior.

Actually if you go by the perchita text then it says rope. the differance between rope and camel is one dot, and camel has the dot, most likely a fly spec.

Mat 19:23 And Jesus said to His disciples, Truly I say to you that a rich man will with great difficulty enter into the kingdom of Heaven.
Mat 19:24 And again I say to you, It is easier for a camel to pass through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
Mat 19:25 And His disciples were exceedingly astonished when they heard this, saying, Who then can be saved?
Mat 19:26 But having looked at them, Jesus said to them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

That is the verse in context. It is more difficult for the wealthy simply because they tend to depend on and worship their wealth instead of relying on God. It is more difficult, but not impossible. There are many examples of wealthy individuals who found the favor of God, Abraham, Job, David, Solomon.

It's hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom not impossible...mostly because if you give to the poor, widow and the fatherless as much as you can you will hardly be rich.I feel it is cold and heartless for a person to hord money when they know they could change that. Not that they are obligated but they should have compassion. If they are then..cold and heartless how could they go to a heaven given to them as a reward for their loyalty.

No - I think He meant you can't rely on your wealth to get you into heaven.
A more throrough explanation from RBC Ministries...
"Jesus knew the young man's heart. He knew that he was looking for a way to earn his salvation on his own terms. He may have thought that the Master would give him a specific task or good deed to perform that would win eternal life, one that wouldn't require him to humble himself and unconditionally set his life under the authority of Christ. Instead, Jesus set up a requirement that clearly illustrated the basic issue: the rich young man's desire to retain control of his life.

Jesus wasn't implying that salvation can actually be earned by good deeds. Even if the rich young ruler would have given away his riches and followed Christ, he wouldn't have earned his salvation. However,if he had done so, he would have surrendered his desire for autonomy and acknowledged God's authority to do what He wanted with his life.

Jesus felt compassion for this young man. But because He knew that the ruler was seeking to manipulate God, He had no choice but to send him away with a clear awareness of his failure."

no they are not going to hell if they give money to the poor, and use their money for thegood of their religion. but as islam says a rich man who got his money by scandel then this is a deed that will be recorded for him. this deed dosent immediatly get him into hell but it makes his bad deeds outweigh his good deeds. but if he repents then Allah will forgive him. even if you are rich if you pay the zakkat your suppose to pay every eid then you have no problem. you get a good deed for paying zakkat even though u have to. if you dont give sadaqah(money from ur own will) then you will get good deeds. if while you are rich you dont give money from your own will then its ok but you have to pay zakkat. and when you are rich you are no diffrent from any other man except by piety. by your good deeds and by the belife in your lord. you cant focus too much on your money.

Rich people and poor people go to the same place, and the poor are finally equal.

What is rich? $50,000 a year? $100,000 a year? $1,000,000 a year? Twenty pieces of silver a year? Maybe we're all rich ( in America) and we're all going to hell.
