As a BI-POLAR patient, I am prescribed & taking 1200mg of Lithium. It's suppose to be 1500mg but I'm keeping it at 1200mg.
Lithium is not right for everyone, take to your doctor about changing medication.

Lithium is a wonderful drug and effective for most bipolar pts. It can cause nasty side-effects if the level is too high for you, which is why you should have blood levels tested every couple of months. It can cause severe tremors when it's too high. High levels can be caused by taking too much of it, or becoming dehydrated from heat, exercise, or illness. Therefore it is important to drink enough fluids everyday.

Any "nurse" who dishes out false information about treatments or diseases should have their nursing license taken away! And the "shuffle" refers to old generation antipsychotics (such as thorazine), not lithium for God's sake.

It is likely just bringing you down of the high caused by the disease but if it is extreme talk to your doctors about it.

Stay on your meds.
My sister in law convinced herself she did not need them and ended up as a suicide.
do not trust people who tell you not to take your prescribed medicine.
go for a checkup. you might need the dosage adjusted.

Like any med you have to be careful. What works for some-may not for others. I think you should ask your doctor if you aren't feeling better and don't let your doctor prescribe it-see a psychiatrist who knows what may work best for you.
