To clarify, a lot of people use them to embody good vs. evil like they are equal and opposite. But I would think Satan is a subset (spin-off) created by God, therefore lesser than him - so why the concern over who is going to win?

I see him as God's opposite. He is a fallen angel who got too big for his breeches. God cast him into the fiery pits.

Satan was once an angel with free will created just like the rest of them, by God. Read about creation in Proverbs 8:22 - the very end. The angel became Satan whom is also known as the dragon or the original serpent in Revelation 12. He was a creature that turned bad due to his selfish longings. He also corrupted many other angesl whom are known as demons and are now lurking on the surface of the earth confined because they no longer have access to heaven. Read Revelation 12 again.

Evil is the opposite of Gods character. Satan is perhaps the opposite of Jesus. Jesus is fully committed to Gods will and Satan is fully committed against God.

Satan was God's servant, He was kicked out of heaven for being a deceptive force against Adam and Eve. God uses Arch Angels to do his dirty work. Ether way Satan could never be a match for God in any way shape or form.

I see Satan as a fallen angel who will do everything and anything - he's desperate - to turn people away from God and Christ.

He is the master of temptation and will even disguise him self as something good when he's not.

Think of it this way... how quickly and easily a passion for something can turn into obsession.

I think i get it now, after reading some of the replies, he created us and the devil. And also - we created the devil too. Makes perfect imperfection. Thank god for quantum physics and mother natures dried-out breast in the African countries.

I see Satan as being equivalent to God's toilet bowel brush. I use that analogy because God is holy and He never tempts people to do evil. But it is evident from the Scriptures that God uses Satan to test people by tempting them, a deed that is too dirty and despicable for the Holy God of Heaven to perform directly.

"Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread." But he answered, "It is written, "'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, "'He will command his angels concerning you,' and "'On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'" Jesus said to him, "Again it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'" Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, "All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me." Then Jesus said to him, "Be gone, Satan! For it is written, "'You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.'" Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him. Matthew 4:1-11

We know that Satan is defeated now and doomed when his time is up, so since I trust in Jesus I'm not afraid of Him. As long as I humble myself before God and remain alert to the Devil's schemes the evil one cannot defeat me or anyone else who does the same.

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 1 Peter 5:6-10

"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died--more than that, who was raised--who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, "For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:28-39
