So, I have this model hydroelectric generator we have to build as a science project. I've built it, and it's all finished BUT when we actually did the expriement, it won't work!!!! Has anyone built one before? If so, did yours work!? Please help ASAP!!!!!

One problem might be in your winding. What gauge coil did you use? Is it well insulated? Did you wind it such that it is symmetrical? Did you make sure that there are no sharp, tight corners (which might have cut the coil?) Did you check for electrical continuity in the coil?

For the model to generate electricity it will depend on the type of generator you used.

If you used a small dc motor (e.g. a dc motor from a toy or something) then it will already have a permanent magnet inside to generate a magnetic field. Therefore you will only have to turn the armature fast enough until you start getting a voltage. The voltage may be small so you should measure it with a voltmeter because it may not be enough to light up a small (1.5, 3 or 6 volt) bulb.

If you used an induction motor/generator then you will need to provide a field. This can get complicated.

Maybe if you provide me with more information on the type of model generator used I can help you much more

You need a big water fall.
