I dont know exactly what you mean, but the Bible's authority comes from the authority the Holy Spirit through Christ has given to the Catholic Church. St. Augustine said that if it were not for the teaching authority of the church, he would not believe the bible. Jesus gave this authority, and this is how we know what to follow. Many protestants remove or add to the Bible based on what they believe to be God's true word, not on any real authority, this is why the teaching and the tradition of the Catholic church are so important in studying the meaning of the bible(NT), which is essentially the record of God's inspiration to His people through the course of His church, which is part of tradition.

In my experience very few so called "Christians" have bothered to read, let alone study the Bible. The memorize verses, take them out of context, both Biblical and Historical, and then use them to justify the most un-Christian behavior possible. That I have found true for both Christian, Orthodox, and Protester.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 says: "For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories."
That time has been around for a long time. Someone on here recently asked "Is there a questionaire I can take to find out what religion is right for me?" I told her "Why not figure out what the right religion is period and follow it regardless of your selfish desires?" People today want to hear what they want to hear. They're not interested in what God has to say.

I do not believe in the Bible alone dogma. This man made dogma is unbiblical. Jesus never command or wrote one word down, yet taught strictly by actions (example) and command His followers to do the same
Yet many evangelicals worship the ink on the page of a book while forgetting the heart of the meaning of Jesus Christ.
This for me, is idolatry plain and simple. Again, Bible Alone dogma is a man made invention that can never stand the test of time.

"But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. 2 Timothy 3:1-5
"I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. 2 Timothy 4:1-4

It gives people the excuse to continue doing whatever they want to. Tolerance to society should not be included in church. However, at least these people are going to church. I'm sure God is with them there as well.
