Lie down upturned stretch hands and legs consciously relax each limb of the body with eyes closed, inhale and exhale very fully & slowly about 5 to 6 times, and then just let go the body and the mind. Be a witness to the mind, also watch what the body is doing, not trying to judge or conclude the observation(this is the most important thing!). Do not participate in the thoughts, just watch it. Very soon sleep , and a quality sleep has to envelop you !

Insomnia, join the other millions of people that have this. When you don't sleep the night before, if at all possible, don't nap. Watch your intake of caffeine - including chocolate. Read labels. Try reading a book at bedtime. Free your mind of worries. If you have bills, pay them. If you need to finish something at work, do it. All else fails, see the doctor, maybe he can prescribe you something better than the mild sedatives.

It's best that you make an appointment to visit your family doctor. He or She will know more about how to regulate your sleep than you do. Self-medicating is not a good thing. Ask your doctor about Zopiclone. This is what I use. It is for occasional sleeplessness. Don't try to rely on it because it will become a crutch.

This is a matter of habit.
Most good habits take 21 days minimum to form.
Bad habits take 3 days to 7days to form.
Addictive habit take one occasion to get hooked.
This means you must retrain your body.
So you must seat down make a time table.
Go to bed at
Get up at.
Then stick to it, means stay in bed.
It would help if you can fix the time for other thing also. Like eating, taking bath, tea time breakfast time..............
Then stick to all this times.
I just checked your other "Q?". It tell me you have all kind of issues that may be keeping you up. Are you otherwise OK. If not see a doctor and have yourself checked by the doctor tell doctor about your problem and show this "Q?" and "A".
To get sleep, you have to be physically tired. If you are mentally active or tired you may not be able to go to sleep. Do not encourage certain issues to rehash itself in your mind read a funny book, good happy story, think about some childhood happy times.
Do the same when going to bed. when awake in bed think of happy stuff.
Hope this will help.

the thought process is main culprit and it depends how you deal with your thoughts. at times these thoughts are so nice to continue with and times they are very scary but in both the cases it is very interesting to continue with the thoughts and one does not want to discontinue it.
what i do is that i tell my thoughts to stop there itself how much so ever interesting or scary they are and i ask them to get out of the room and if need be, initially get up physically and open the door and tell them to stand there out side the door and bolt the door after telling the thoughts to meet again next morning and hit the bed again.
it started helping me and slowly i learnt to deal with the thought process and tell them good night without physically guiding them out of the room, i found that the thoughts started obeying me.
its simple try it tonight.

get some exercise several hours before your bed time. quit eating or drinking anything with caffeine. keep your bedroom cold and dark- don't use it for anything but sleeping and sex. go to bed and get up the same time every day.

maybe you drink so much coffee? lessen your caffeine intake....i don't know if you have shiatsu in your place...or you can ask your partner to massage your head and nape....while watching tv, tune in the channel that you don't undestand the language, soon you are snoring, and tell everybody in the house not to wake you up to transfer in your bedroom!!!
