The above answer is what I would say too. But, a really great presentation is putting the pudding in a flower pot (new one obviously) and putting the crushed up oreos or other chocolate cookie crumbs on top. Then put the gummy worms on the top and place a large fake flower in it. It will look like a regular potted flower from a distance and the kids will love to eat it!
Also, you could do the pudding and cookie crumbs in a 9x13 pan. Mix the gummy worms into the "mud" and/or place them on top. Then use a piping bag of Cool-Whip to make ghosts (make a circle and keep going upwards to a point. Use mini chocolate chips or a teethpick with chocolate syrup on it to make two eyes.) This makes a spooky graveyard.

One of the most typical is to make chocolate cupcakes, and put a hole large enough for the gummy worm in the middle. Stick the gummy worm in and frost with chocolate icing. You can put more than one gummy worm or whatever, it just makes it look like worms coming out of the dirt. I know that it's pretty generic but that's the best I can think of right now.

Use a clean small glass fish bowl (They are pretty cheap, if you get the plain ones)
Fill it with blue jello for the water and let it get PARTLY solid.
Add the worms and other cool gummies (they make sharks, frogs, octopus, and swedish fish) then let it solidify the rest of the way
It looks cool and tastes pretty good, (even for the grown ups.)
Another classic is the cup cakes that are chocolate, with chocolate frosting. Put one or two worms into the cupcake (It helps to poke them in with a butter knife). Then sprinkle heavily with crushed oreos (dirt!)
Tip - crush the oreos in a large zip lock baggy with a heavy jar rolled over them. - your son will enjoy doing this part, and it will be easier clean up.
Another fun thing to eat is a trail mix of popcorn, candy corn and gummy worms. It's actually pretty good.
I have seen gummy worms added to marshmallow krispies, but have no clue how that would taste? Maybe it would be fun with the gummy bugs.
Good luck!

Make chocolate pudding and put it in little clear cups. Stick gummy worms into the pudding coming out of the cup. Sprinkle crushed oreo cookies around on top of the pudding. This looks like dirt with worms crawling out it.

Ummm... try Dirt. It's Oreo bits crushed in a bowl. Add gummy worms, and also, I've done this before, maybe put Strawberry syrup on top, so it will look like dirt, worms, and blood. Hope this helps!!!
