I have to provide two cakes for my kid's carnival. The form does not say "provide" a cake it says "make" a cake, and goes on to give all of the instructions for turning it in. I did ask and it is ok to buy one, however, I would like to buy one and add something to it. Any ideas for turning a plain pound cake into a Halloween cake are much appreciated. Seriously, ANY and ALL ideas appreciated!!!!!!

Thanks in advance!

I would think that maybe an orange or black frosting, and then add spider rings or something along that line to it.. or take and trace out a cat and a full moon shape, and if you do orange frosting, do the cut outs in black.. something like that

Try adding some circus peanuts cut in half along the bottom (feet) and red licorice whips for antenna's, some candy corn for fangs.

When you frost it add some gummy worms and leave parts of them hanging out the sides. Lots of things you can do. You didn't say if the cake was round, loaf or square so you could transform it into a mini monster, a grave or a bug.

Make a cake that looks like a pumpkin with store bought things.

Get two pound cakes (bundt stlye, with a hole in the middle), a couple of tubs of vanilla frosting, orange food color (or mix yellow and red - just remember the red goes a long way!), a twinkie, a jumbo tootsie roll, and 2-3 green laffy taffy.

Put one of the pound cakes UPSIDE DOWN on the serving plate (cover a circle of cardboard with aluminum)

Place the other pound cake right side up, directly on top of the first pound cake. This makes your pumkin shape.

Stir the orange color into the vanilla frosting tubs and cover the whole thing in orange. use your spatula to smooth the frosting from bottom to top to look like the ridges of a pumpkin.

Put your twinkie in the middle hole of the pound cake. This is the stem of the pumpkin.

With clean warm hands roll the tootsie between your palms to soften it and make it look like a twisty vine coming out of the middle and down the side.

Use the green laffy taffy pieces to make leaves. Soften the taffy in your hands and shape it like play dough. Place the taffy leaves along the toostie vine.

I did this for my daughter's class one year, and everyone liked it so much, they hated to eat it!

added PS: I answered this last night -- Today I went to the drugstore and the front cover of one of the ladies magazines had one of the pumpkin cakes on it.

Use black frosting and a decorating tip. Draw circles from the outside edges and all the way to the middle. Draw them on top of the cake and use a tooth picl and run the toothe pick from the edge of the cake to the middle spaced out about 3 inches apart. That whould look like a spider web. Add a blob of black and make legs out of frosting for spiders.
