Matthew 6:24

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and Money.

Matthew 19:21-24

Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

The message is clear. If you want to follow Jesus, you need to "sell your possessions and give to the poor." It is a very simple message, and easy to do. Have you done it? The fact that you are reading this page would indicate that you have not. Chances are you own a computer, pay for an Internet connection every month, live in a home or apartment, have a car, etc. In other words, you live a life at a level of wealth unimaginable in Jesus' time. Meanwhile, billions of people on the planet live in startling, abject poverty.

Why don't you sell everything and follow Jesus, as he requests in the Bible? The reason is simple: Jesus and God are imaginary, and you know it. If Jesus were real, you would do what he says.

Nice one, and very true. They seem to forget that, yet they always remember that passages about condemning other people. None of them can claim to be true christian unless they sell all their material possessions. They are not following what they are supposed to believe in fully. They shouldn't just pick bits out that suits themselves.

There are also Biblical verses proclaiming that eating shellfish is an abomination worthy of condemnation into hell...to take any single Bible verse and proclaim it as the one literal fact that must be followed would be missing the point.

Keep in mind that no person is perfect, which is part of the point of human existence. The point of the passage as I have always heard it is that it is important to live a life of benevolence as opposed to a life of greed and self-righteousness. Surely this cannot be considered a bad thing.

God bless you,Head nurse. This verses that you presented doesn't show the truth of what it is written. The first scripture that you showed was added from ur own disdain. The second verse was an experienced between a rich ruler and my Lord Jesus.

God bless you for ur unfortunate efforts. Praying 4 ya always.

Some people do. In Mathew Jesus was speaking to a specific situation because his money was more important to him that Jesus was. He also calls Christians to do something about poverty hence things like Micah challenge and make poverty history campaigns.

Oh my dear, FIRST OF ALL YOU ARE SITING THE WRONG PASSAGE: MARK 10
SECOND~ did u not read what it said before that?

Mark 10:17 &when He was gone forth into the way, there came 1 running,& kneeled to Him,& asked Him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life.
18: & Jesus said unto him,why callest thou me good? There is none good but one that is God.
19: Thou knowest the commandments -
20: & He answered & said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth

Then your verse is MARK 10:21

You need to know what u are talking about BEFORE u start spouting nonsense.:o]

So altogether u just have no idea of His greatness that's all I'm trying to say. You can just love God, follow His rules, and still go to Heaven, He knows we're sinners, He KNOWS we are NOT perfect. God bless.

Jesus wanted to test that rich man to measure and illustrate his response; and he walked away from salvation that day! There is a difference between a universal command like: DO NOT MURDER and a conditional command like; give up your riches.

You have a good suggestion though, Ill measure what I give to God and you measure what you give to God. Believers have been feeding and clothing the needy for centuries and building orphanages and hospitals and doing missionary work. What do your atheist groups do for mankind besides hate and reject God?

Please do keep posting vomit from godisimaginary.com. I never get tired of refuting it!

You're taking a scripture out of context and trying to use it to disprove God and Jesus' existence!

Jesus knew that this man loved his material posessions more than his relationship with God. Jesus knew that if that man couldn't get over that, then he'd never have a proper relationship with God. That was the biggest thing holding him back. There are many things we can love more than God which would hold us back from serving Him the way he wants. If we aren't willing to give them up, then He won't accept our worship.

Your reasoning is faulty and your question is silly.

Thank you for clearing that up. Not only did you lay out your objection, but you also told me the reason that I do not do what you--citing Jesus as an example though you don't believe he existed and/or is the Son of God--suggest I do.

Fact is, you have no idea what I do, nor who Jesus is.

Best to you for your future.

Jesus didn't tell everyone to sell their possessions. He told that particular man to do that because his money was his idol. Your question demontrates the attitude of a person who is looking for excuses not to follow Jesus, not of a person who is seeking to know how they can be saved from their sins.

My hope is that one day before you leave this earth you will go through an experience like I did. I was an agnostic for most all of my life because I wasn't going to believe in something that couldn't be proved. It was only when I realized that my life had no meaning without God and after I became homeless that I was ready to turn my life over to Him. That's one of the reasons Jesus had this to say when He was here on earth.

"And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. "Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. "Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. "Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets. "But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. "Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry. "Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. Luke 6:20-25

God and Jesus are as real as anger, fear, desire, lust, guilt or things that are felt even without being seen....it's just there. To you they are imaginary because you donot know them and cannot feel their presence.God is the greater of these feelings detected-love.Everyone will one day see.One thing the creator gave us all-to decide for ourself what is right...no man can change that and for ignoring him...someday he will turn from you..when you see that he is your only hope.
