I'm sure that they're physically able to, I just don't know whether or not they'd be able to catch them, or want to eat them. It shouldn't harm him.
Or maybe it was a stray cat who had a snack, or another of the fish, or a raccoon, or a bird of some sort, or maybe you just couldn't see them.

Yes, dogs can eat fish.
Labs are good water dogs, and wouldn't be shy about jumping into a pond, go for a swim and possibly catching a fish.

I have a back yard pond as well and we had a beagle. We bought big goldfish, algae eaters, and a few bubble-eyed goldfish, a few went missing and we blamed our beagle, but a few days later we were sitting on our back porch when a huge owl flew by and snatched one.... lets just say we never blamed the beagle again. But it would be kind of funny if your dog really did eat the fish... anyways it wont hurt them.

well their naturally bred for hunting and for the water i think fish would be a source of protein for them like meat and i dont think its too bad for your dog but i'd put up something around the pond or in a little while you wont have any more fish

Of course a lab can eat fish, they love the water and are bound to chase-then catch-something flitting about in the water.
