just because you don't see fleas does not mean there aren't any. there are other products besides advantix that you can get from your vet. think of it this way: if you get an infestation you may have to toss the carpet or pay someone to get it de-fleaed, and your cat still will have fleas.

the other thing to consider is dermatitis etc. - when next your cat sees the vet (providing it isn't too far in the future) ask him about it. is your house really dry?

My kitten had flees at first... we couldn’t see them but all the biting was a clue.... a couple of baths did the job. there are a few inexpensive flee shampoos in your local petsmart or petco.
i found those work well a long with a flee collar. For my cat... three bath and the flees are done.... all the shampoo keeps the fleas away.... he goes out side and no fleas for the last month sense the flees where gone

licking is not necessarily fleas….

this is what i did, i got a shampoo for fleas and washed my cat once every day, and also if you get a flee collar, that is bad for your cat, but put it in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum 1 or 2 times a day it will get the fleas out of the carpet. u have to wash your cat evry day or the fleas will come bak on, and ask the vet which kind it is taht kills the flea eggs too. its cheap, and it works.

theres no problem with them cleaning themseves, it all depends on their personalitly. if the cat is scratching or biting himself often, than there might be fleas apparent. if so, you can get a flea collar or powder at any food store or pet shop. it might cost 5 dollars. if the cat is cleaning himself alot, then make sure you brush him daily because hairballs could be a problem.

Cats always clean themselves, they're one of the world's cleanest animals. It's perfectly normal. A lot of scratching would suggest fleas, not a lot of cleaning.
Just watch out for hairballs.

and scratching too? If no, there is no flea. In this case it's probably due to the fact your cat doesn't like the way he or she smells and he or she is trying to get rid of this scent.

Cats are very clean animals. It's normal for him to clean himself all the time.

Your cat could just have dandruff or it may just like to clean itself. if he had fleas then he would probably be scratching not licking. You shouldn't worry.

i work with cats at a cat shelter, and my experience is that when they excessively groom, that means that they are bored. you might need to spend more time with him. if you cant, try some new toys to keep him entertained. they say another cat is also good, but thats up to you.

Your cat may have allergies. I have a cat and a dog with allergies...believe it or not, it is pretty common. If you take him to the vet they can prescribe steroids...they are pretty inexpensive for animals.
