So often I hear "love" used to mean "sex", and I'm sooooo tired of that definition. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the marriage bed. Can anybody here, though, state different ways to love others, that DON'T include sex?

If you want to tie this into your religion, that is fine also.

To love someone is to have unconditional support for them without expecting anything back in return. True love is where you feel a want deep inside your heart to help and cherish someone. Sex is sometimes an expression of love but is often used as a recreational activity (and that's fine if it's safe and legal) There are many many ways to love but the main ones are

Love of God - to love God without question
Love of Family - an unconditional love of all your family no matter how much they hurt or irritate you
Love of a friend - where you would do anything for your friend and not expect anything back
Love of a partner - a deep love that transcends time and space which is felt from the heart
Love of an inanimate object - ie computer - something you really like but could live without

Hope that helped!

In the latin language, there were 3 words for love. Eros or erotic love was the lowest form. Then there was Philos (Philadelphia city of brotherly love) Was love your brother (or sister) a little higher level of love. Then there was agape. It uses the example set by Jesus Christ. His love proclaimed that we have to forgive. We have to love our enemy. We have to forgive others over and over. We have to put everyone else's needs in front of our own. He lived the perfect example of pure and true love. He took no profit. In the end, he broke the bonds of death by taking upon himself all the sins of the world, with restrictions of course. He is famous, even the world's calender it BC and AD. Yet he built no buildings, wrote no books, never played football or any sport but affected the world more than any living soul.

And my wife says sex only describes a relationship that may only take 1/2 hour 2 , 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 times a week. What about the other 23.5 hours a day or more. How you treat each other those other hours measures the true nature of love. Are you more tolerant of other people than your spouse? Do you build each other up or tear each other down? Does either attempt to control the other or allow freedoms? Is there trust or jealousy. My wife left her husband mostly because of intense jealousy. I left my wife because of intense jealousy. I argued with my x. She always thought it was my fault. Well, I have been married to my wife for 6 years and we really havent had a raised voice argument. We have disagreed, but do it in a civilized manner. That is because we respect each other. It is a loving close relationship. I can really say that she is my best friend. Sex is good, but we do not have sex even 8 hours daily every day. Now imagine that.

Great question. I hope you are just asking for a good debate- cause your question is clear; Sex doesn't mean love as people do it without wanting love or thinking about the commitment. Some people desire sex more often than others, it depends on you. Love doesnt mean sex, but it can and if often does....usually it does. It is healthy, and it is the most intimate thing so it shows or can mean or your way to express how you feel how close you are and how attracted you are.

So no love does not have to mean sex. People say making love not having sex. The first implies passion, emotional intamacy and commitment, affection, sexual love, platonic love, friendship, romantic love, puppy love, infatuation, commited love, passionate love.

It does not surely mean one thing, but it depends on how you look at it and how you see it. If your heart is for commitment they you want to make sarcafices for mutual benefit, and satisfaction.

I wonder if you are in love and dont want or want to learn about what is right or wrong; what works for you. If one has a higher sex drive- try to make it work cause what are the benefits.
FYI- i checked out : this site for tons of cool info about love stuff, coincidentally- today;)

Hope you likey me answer.
Peace;)

There are several kinds of love, all covered by the various words used in Greek to convey the english "love".

A·ga´pe carries the meaning of love guided, or governed, by principle. It may or may not include affection and fondness. So, although distinguished by respect for principle, a·ga´pe is not unfeeling; otherwise it would not differ from cold justice. But it is not ruled by feeling or sentiment; it never ignores principle. This is the kind of love Christians are to have primarily, even for their enemies.

Philia is a brotherly, camaraderly love. It's where the name Philadelphia comes from, and why that city is called the "city of brotherly love."

Eros is love between the sexes, erotic love.

Stor·ge´ designates the natural affection between close relatives and especially between parents and their children.

Hope this helps.

Unless it is used in connection with Jesus, love in the West is a concept devoid of sense if it does not entail, include or lead to sex. In Oriental society, where the concepts of virtue and chastity are still in force, love as a pure platonic feeling is practised and encouraged as a first step towards marriage, a relationship deemed incomplete pending an active sexual life.

Love is the care you feel for a person. But there is diff. forms of love. You love your parents but, you don't have sex with them. Inexperinced people think the sexual desire or infatuation they feel for someone is love. When you love a person theres lots of ways to show it. The time you spend or the things you do. Even years into a relationship that little touch of the hand or that bit of eyecontact in a crowded room. Love is a difficult emotion to explane and there are endless ways to show it.

Hugs, a gift just because, a phone call just to say hi, talking about the everything openly no secrets, strong communication, saying your beautiful when she wakes up. Sex is a gift from God to married couples to make families. Sex is a beautiful thing, but not if your not ready to handle all the consequences that may happen if your not married, STD s single parenting, financially unstable. its goes on and on. Other wise if your boy fiend keeps telling you to have sex with him because its love then he is using you for one thing only. He doesn't care about you.

Showing care and consideration for the person; helping; making the other person felt wanted and/or important; treating with respect

Think of how you love a child or pet - it is the norm not to have sex with them but have many ways to show that.
