You ask a very good question. Besides size you will find other features like feather shaping and habitat. See this page for a better explanation.

crows and ravens are different in looks, ravens being larger and having a heavier bill, and a diamond shaped tail (you can see this when they are flying), crows have a square tail (also seen when flying). Ravens are usually found in "wilder" places, while crows are more likely to be found in cities. Also, Ravens live longer than crows and are a little different in some behaviors as well.

Ravens are seen as wise and crafty, such as Odin's two ravens( which represent wisdom) and numerous raven's in native American mythologies.. Crows however are seen as carriers of disease, as well as being associated with gods of war due to the fact that crows would scavenge the corpses after a battle.

The tail is the giveaway. Square=crow. Tapered=raven.

Crows tend to be smaller with a thinner, pointier beak. They're not as chunky and their wings are much rounder when seen in flight. Their calls are also different with crows having a characteristic 'caw! caw!' when they vocalize.

Ravens are much heavier and shaggier looking. You can see this shagginess in their throat feathers and behind the head. Their bills are much heavier also. Their wing shape is broader with ragged outlined flight feathers. Their call is very distinct with a loud rattling 'craa-oohk!'. They're found farther north than crows though they do inhabit the same areas as crows. The easiest thing to look for though is their huge size, their voice and the rough throat feathers :-) .

Hope that helps!

Ravens are much bigger than crows, and they go in pairs. Crows go in flocks. A flock of crows is called a murder. Crows make a raucous CAW sound. Ravens croak.

Kinda depends on where you are. Some of the answers above are assuming that you're in the U.S. and some are assuming you're not. Crows in the U.S. are very similar to ravens - birdgirl's and conure's answers are right. On the other hand, if you're somewhere else, crows might not be all black, so radhika j's and karpflover's answers are probably right for their part of the world.
