No. Ego is a word created by modern psychology which considers that man is an animal and nothing more. Just like a rat or a frog. The word pychology is actually a lot older than modern psychology. It comes from the Greek word PSYCHE
which means "soul or spirit" and the Latin LOGOS which means "study of".
Here are some definitions that may help.
The Spirit or Soul
This is described as having no mass, no wave-length,no energy and no time or location in space except by consideration or postulate.
The spirit is not a "thing". It is the "creator" of things.
The usual residence of the soul, (spirit, awareness of awareness unit....YOU) is in the skull or near the body.
The soul can be in one of four conditions.
1. Entirely separate from a body or bodies.
2. Near a body and knowingly controlling the body.
3. In the body (the skull).
4. An inverted condition, compulsively away from the body and unable to approach it.
There are degrees of each of the above 4 conditions.
The most optimum of these from the standpoint of man, is the second.
The Mind
This is a communication and control system between the spirit and it's (his) environment.
The mind is a network of communications and pictures, energies and masses, which are brought into being by the activities and interactions of the spirit with the Physical Universe and other spirits/individuals.
These activities include the operating of a body and the solving
of problems related to survival and existence.
The mind has 2 Parts:
The Analytical Mind. The keynote of this mind is awareness. One knows what one is concluding and knows what one is doing.
The Reactive Mind. This is a stimulus response mechanism.
This mind acts below the level of consciousness. It never stops operating unlike the Analytical Mind which can be less aware or even completely unconscious.
The Body
A carbon/oxygen engine. This can best be studied in such books as "Grey's Anatomy" and other anatomical texts.
It is also true that the soul (you) do not die. Only the Body dies.

There is no physiology of the soul because the soul is not a physical thing...its not located anywhere; it is just an idea. There may be some brain structures that function as the Freudian ego, i.e. structures that are responsible for rational thinking, but there is probably not one place we could say is the ego itself, since the ego is a psychological term and is therefore the result of the entire brain working as a whole, not one specific location. We cannot think after we die because our brains are responsible for thinking.

The ego is ruled by the head. The soul is ruled by the heart.
No one can tell you where a soul is. The body and soul are bound together and cannot be seperated until the body dies.
The soul is the part of us that goes to heaven - or wherever you believe we go when we die.
The ego is what makes us feel insecure and unhappy. The ego is all about looks and how other people see us. The soul accepts us for who and what we are.

We do not have souls, we are souls. The Bible is very clear about this. At Genesis 2:7 it says: "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." (So Adam became a soul or a person.)
Leviticus 5:4: "Or if a soul swear, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatsoever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these." (A soul can swear)
Leviticus 7:27: "Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people." (A soul can eat)
Leviticus 22:11: "But if the priest buy any soul with his money, he shall eat of it, and he that is born in his house: they shall eat of his meat." (Animals are souls too.)
Leviticus 23:30: "And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people." (Souls can work and be destroyed)
Ezekiel 18:4: "Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die." Also Ezekiel 18:20: " The soul that sinneth, it shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him." Also Revelation 16:3: " And the second poured out his bowl into the sea; and it became blood as of a dead man; and every living soul died, even the things that were in the sea." (A soul is not immortal--it dies)
God's Word tells us what happens when we die. Psalms 146:4: "His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; In that very day his thoughts perish."
Ecclesiastes 9:10: "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol (grave), whither thou goest."
So the dead cannot talk, feel, or hear anything.
Those who are sleeping in death will remain in a deep sleep until Jesus who has been given the authority, resurrects them back to life.

WAKEUP,you are a being of light,to function in this environment you have a space suit called a body. You are the life (atman) or soul which animates the body.you create your own circumstances of life through your brain by the selection of thought.your ego is seperate from atman.I don't know of thought after death of the body,I believe you function from feeling on that level of awareness.see web for swami muktananda paramahamsa

Soul is something that you cannot see or touch, I dunno about hearing a soul, but maybe.
I don't think that it's the same as ego.
