Someone once told me I can do so in a skillet with oil, but I was given no specifics. I am a cooking moron, so nothing about it is second nature to me. Net, if you provide me with a suggestion, please be very, very specific. Thanks!

I use a tiny bit of cooking oil, just enough to soften it. You dip the tortilla in the oil and then place it in your container that you intend to use to bake it. (That is what I am assuming you are doing). Otherwise, a very simple way is just to wrap them in paper towels and place them in the microwave for about 20 seconds or so, (depending on the power of your microwave). Experiment with it. TIP: If you leave them in the oil too long, they will become too crispy and you probably don't want to do that, unless you are trying to make them crispy. I make tacos the way I told you above and my family loves them. If you want crispy tacos, here is the way.
Place one tortilla at a time using just half of it until it forms a shape, then turn it on the other side doing the same thing. ( I use tongs). That will form a perfect shell to insert your meat, etc. in. Don't be afraid to experiment. Place the taco in a large Pyrex dish lined with paper towels to absorb the grease. Then use your stuffing starting with the cooked hamburger, then adding the lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. Some people like to add grated cheese.

Best wishes

I use an iron skillet. I put a tablespoon of canned chili in the skillet and add water, about a cup. Then I heat to medium high and put in tortillas, one at a time. You can move them around with a spatula and get a feel for their softness. This is the way I soften corn tortillas to use for enchiladas.

I love taco's but hate the mess so now we put all of the ingredients on on plate and use chips (white corn or yellow corn) Get the taco seasoning mix from the food store and fallow the directions I put in more water so it will take longer to cook I find that this way the seasoning cooks in more. Cook it until most of the water is gone. I also dice tomato's and green onions cut up lettuce fine and shred a med Cheddar cheese Taco sauce or salsa it comes in mild med hot or suicide some people like re fried beans sour cream guacamole Or any thing Else you like I put every thing in their own dishes and have a big bowl of chips and let people serve themselves and then they can have what they want This way is allot easier for kids it's not so messy and every chip can be different so you can get them to try different things and if they don't like it you only waste a little bit

Besides steam other ways include
wrapping in aluminum foil and placing in a hot oven (maybe 450) for a few minutes.
use a skillet over medium heat with maybe a half tablespoon of oil and turn after 30 seconds or so.
if you feel dangerous you could put the directly over the flame on a gas burner. This can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. I think the foil one is the easiest.

Put the tortillas under a slightly damp paper towel in the microwave for a few seconds (15-30). They will be soft.

well i woudlnt' do the oil -- because they will fry and become crispy -- believe me. If you have a gas range... turn the gas range on low and let the tortillas (one by one) warm on the gas flame -- i know it sounds dangerous but my mother in law does it all the time...about three to five seconds each side. If you don't want to or can't do that...the microwave oven works WONDERS... put two or three on a paperplate or paper towel (for moisture) and heat up for 5-10 seconds... hope that helps!!!

I keep my tortillas in between waxed paper in a ziplock. I just open the ziplock a little and nuke for 10-15 seconds. Works every time and doesn't dirty a dish!
