SQL Server 2005 error?

Question

Hi there, I am having problems installing SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition. I am using Windows XP Media Center Edition with Service pack 2. The only setup file that SQL Server let's me run is the x86. It doesn't let me install Itanium and it doesn't let me install x64.

So, I am trying to install x86 and the install program runs, then I click Install, it installs the SQL Server native client just fine, but when it starts installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup Support Files, progresses for a while and then it stops and an error appears telling me: Error 1603 Installing Microsoft Sql Server 2005 Setup Support Files. I checked the log file and this is what the log file says:

Error String : The installer has encountered an unexpected error. The error code is 2908. Could not register component {1F3316BE-825B-4390-A9D2-AF3EECCAE9F6}.
Error Number : 2908

I don't know how to solve this problem. Does anyone know what to do? I really want to install SQL

have you downloaded .net framework 2.0 first? It's compulsory to do so prior installing SQL Server 2005.
