Be accessible but not pushy. Give your kitten the freedom to explore and become comfortable with it's new surroundings. Cats are naturally curious and eventually, she/he will become interested in getting to know you. It's important not to be pushy because the kitten may interpret this as aggression and be afraid. Trust me when she/he gets hungry, she/he will eat. As far as sexing the kitten, sometimes this is difficult. If you don't do it when they're newborn, you may have to wait until puberty (about 5-6 months). Then , get it spayed or nuetered.

sit on the floor so your at his/her level and put your hand out. Let the kitten come to you never go to him/her, that might intimidate it. let him/her sniff your hand and when they rub up against your hand, that means they like you and now you can pet them, but If she doesn't let it go and try again later. zoo keepers use that trick with the tigers, now I do that with every cat I meet, and it does work.If they don't warm up to you right away, I would give it time.
What I want to know, what is that guy doing 'adopting'/selling kittens out in a parking lot? did you pay alot for this kitten?Do you have a way of contacting him now?was he adopting just the one kitten or a whole litter? did you get any medical back round with proof? what was his story behind the kitten/kittens? this sounds really fishy to me.
taking him to the vet would be my first priority. pet stores are not allowed to sell unhealthy animals, but you are allowed to adopt them, but you must be upfront about it.
A co-worker bought a puppy from a pet store and the next day the vet said he had a heart problem and could die at any moment. so he took the puppy back and got a refund.. don't know what happened to the puppy after that.or it could be some barn kittens he had
I hope everything will be fine for you and your new kitten

What do you mean that it is late? How ol dis your kitten? It is possible that your kitten was an abused animal. My husband and I bought a kitten from our local pet store we where told that is was a girl! The kitten that we bought was to have been vet checked and was ready to go that was a lie. So we have this kitten that was pertty much hairless and refused to eat and was teriffied to eat or to even be touched. I called our vet office to see what we could do and they told us we went out and bought kitty milk formla and a kitty bottel and canned food for her to eat. Need less to say it worked very well! The next step was to not allow many people around the animal allow it to be fimilar with a person or two first before entering a room full of people or especially children if you have small children. Talk in a low tone voice to allow the kitten to feel comfortable. And to let you know when you adopt an animal they should have all ready be vet checked, dewormed and fixed and you should have been told the gender of the kitten. I say this because or girl kitten named princess end up being a prince and we found that out after our household became infected with ring worm that our prince was a carrier and it cost in the $1,000 and that was just for him to get treated and so on the pet store that sold her/him to us did it in bad faith because the animal was ill and wasn't yet to be weaned from it's mother. So please be carefull on what your are being sold on!!!!!

ok first of... if its a boy he will have balls ... its putty obvious even when it simply walks you will see to little balls right under the tail.
How old is the kitten? If it looks real small it might just be scared. It also could be that its been hurt or abused. Think about who you got it from and why…..for example my cat was adopted too and for the first few month he got scared of ALL noises. I know my cat had a harsh childhood what about yours?
Him or her being scared may also lead to no eating… I would just holding it. Love it pet it … show it you care and not going to hurt it….. they are a lot like children. Don’t worry about food too much …. One night with out food won’t kill him or her especially if you are taking it to a doctor. Think about it this way if some strange lady took you away and tied to feed you right away would you care to eat or would you bee on a lookout? The kitten has to be comfortable in order to east. Also what are you trying to feed it? If it’s too small it won’t eat hard food…. It might not be used to that food …. Don’t worry they usually get used to any food… by the way make sure not change up food too fast it might give it an upset stomach which might mean vomit and fun stuff like that..
First night just love it.
hope that helps

Kittens can be shy at first in new surroundings. You should try to determine the kittens age first. If the kittens eyes are still blue it's under 5 weeks old. If it's under 5 weeks, it would still be nursing off the mother. If the eye color has changed the it should be old enough to eat on its own. If you try several foods and it still doesn't want to eat you should get some KMR (kitten milk replacement), and get it to drink some of that. It's good to use with problem eaters because it helps sustain body weight and nutrients. You could use it until you can find something it wants to eat, or until you find out if there is anything physically wrong with it. You could also try force feeding it.

If you bought the kitten off the street, it may have been abused or the man did not feed or take care of it properly. I would talk to your vet tomorrow and tell them where you got it. They may tell you the same thing. For now, try to stay calm when approaching the kitten and tell it that everything is ok. If it doesn't want to be pet, just leave it alone. Something tells me it was abused or maybe even something went wrong when it was being born. But dint be afraid, just talk to your vet and maybe try putting a little human food in its bowl mixed with the cat food. For my dog, when he was a puppy, he would not eat. But we sprinkled a little Parmesan cheese over his food. Dint do that to often though because then the cat will get to used to that.

Some times it's hard to tell what a kitten is when it's little. i have two kittens and i could tell what they were until they were 4 months. What kind of food did you buy? sometimes hard food is too hard for kittys. try wet food. or if it's not totally weined you can get some kitty milk from the vet. it's just scared of you right now. (when it shrinks back from your hand) pretty soon it will be all over you wanting love. If you need to know anything else just ask me i will be more then happy to help! my e-mail is F_and_S4@yahoo.com

First of all, it's traumatized and needs a space to feel safe. You don't know what kind of treatment he has had from the birth to the man you adopted him from. I'm saying him because you don't know yet.
First: get blankets and pillows for his bed. Put it in a room that you feel he would like to be in, or two rooms-make it comfortable.
Just to let you know, I had a cat that I adopted and didn't drink or eat for 5 days. The vet said if this continues bring her in. She then started drinking and eating.
Food: put out wet kitten food, dry food with warm water mixed and put it in a couple of spots.
Litter box: If you have the one with the hood take is off for awhile.
He will feel more comfortable for awhile it he is not used to a hooded box.

If you were suddently in the presence of someone new, and didn't understand their language or customs, you'd shrink away from a hand raised too. A human hand is a pretty big thing to have waved over you all of a sudden. So go slow. Let the kitten smell your hand and allow you to pet it. I have a wonderful Maine Coon, who still shrinks when I move to quickly. So It's normal. Just love them and you'll have a friend for life.

It's obviously very skittish and confused. I think you should get a cardboard box and get a old pillow, wrap it in a old towel and set the kitten it it. Also make a little door for it to get out, keep it in a closed area, like the laundry room. Also buy some kitty litter tomorrow, and the vet can tell you if its a boy or girl. Just gently pick it up and place it in a little bed and hopefully it'll not freak so much.
